Take Your Monitors to the Next Level

Your monitors are an integral part of your studio and influence your decisions from the start of the project through the final mix and master. Musicians who need rock-solid monitors will love the Adam Audio A8H powered studio monitor. The A8H flaunts 3-way operation and a proper tri-amped design for outstanding accuracy and superior efficiency. The A8H has three drivers: an 8-inch Multi-Layer Mineral (MLM) woofer, 3.5-inch MLM midrange, and Adam Audio’s X-ART ribbon tweeter. When you sit down in front of a pair of A8H monitors (sold individually), they will treat you to razor-sharp imaging, ruler-flat frequency response, and borderline unbelievable sonic definition. The A8H also includes rotatable waveguide technology and onboard DSP to fine-tune the sound. Adam Audio’s A8H 3-way Powered Studio Monitor is most at home in medium- to full-sized studios and is intended for midfield monitoring and critical listening.

3-way design for optimized frequency response

Working on 3-way monitors is a game-changing experience, especially if you’re using Adam Audio A8H monitors. The A8H utilizes 3-way, tri-amped architecture to achieve a wider frequency response, extra accuracy, and much more. You’ll notice outstanding cohesion and imaging because the three drivers are assigned to the lows, mids, and highs. The A8H also includes seamless crossovers at 400Hz and 3kHz to ensure each driver performs in its preferred frequency range.

Top-quality drivers all around

The A8H’s internal architecture pairs perfectly with the monitor’s trio of premium drivers. The robust low-end frequencies are handled by an 8-inch MLM (Multi-Layer Mineral) fiber woofer. Meanwhile, an innovative driver design lends clarity and definition to the 3.5-inch MLM midrange driver. Finally, the high-end is handled by an X-ART ribbon tweeter. The X-ART ribbon tweeter is a favorite here at Sweetwater due to its ability to translate clean and transparent high-end up to 42kHz. Adam Audio’s rock-solid drivers ensure that this monitor will unveil every aspect of your mix.

Fine-tune your sound

Adam Audio outfitted the A8H with a couple interesting features to help your monitors fit perfectly into your existing setup. First, the rotatable HPS (High-frequency Propagation System) waveguide allows you to subtly alter the speaker dispersion to create an all-encompassing sweet spot without introducing reflections from studio furniture. The second fine-tuning feature comes in the form of onboard DSP-based tuning. It's capable of interfacing directly with the Sonorworks SoundID Reference plug-in to tailor the sound further (sold separately). It’s super easy to use and ensures that your monitors sound impeccable in any space.

Adam Audio A8H Powered Studio Monitor Features:

  • 3-way design boosts efficiency and ensures clarity in all frequency ranges

  • 8-inch MLM woofer delivers chest-thumping lows

Fantastic Compact 3-Way!

These monitors sounds really good. It took about a week to break-in the monitors and a couple weeks to get use to the X-ART tweeter and it's a nice change. They go low! Low enough to where I don't have to use my sub anymore! The last two monitors I owned had terrible performance issues in my room. My room is tuned well and when I check the A8H with Sonarworks if was mostly flat except for a mild low mid bump and a little boost on the top end. Great measurements right out of the gate! I can't wait to incorporate Sonarworks in the A control software.

Excellent addition to the Adam line... with some concerns

First, I have to say that these monitors sound really great, and that they have excellent frequency response. They are capable of extreme volume, so be careful when monitoring, as they don't distort or sound bad when you turn your mix up loud. The design is great, and the options for sound shaping are excellent. Now for the issues...

I received a right-channel speaker with a bad crossover, so the sound would cut out in the mid frequencies. I was definitely disappointed, as I did all the troubleshooting you could think of. I replaced all cables to the sub and speakers. I reset my RME Fireface UFX+ back to factory and re-created my mix windows. I redid all my routing in Pro Tools. Everything. I contacted support at Sweetwater and Dominic Atkins took care of my problem right away. He had me do a full-range frequency sweep on the monitors and we discovered that the crossover in the right channel speaker was bad. He immediately took care of replacing the monitor and got me back in action in RECORD TIME. THANK YOU, DOMINIC!

The next issue is that the A Control software is not available. I contacted Adam and they said that there were problems with the software and that it would be released at a future date. The A Control software is the reason I upgraded from my A7X immediately when the A8H were released, so this is a disappointment. Adam will get the software out, but it might be a while. I just thought that this would be good information for anyone who wants these specifically for using Sonarworks on the DSP in the speakers.

All in all, these are amazing speakers, as you would expect from Adam, but there were definitely quality control issues with one of the speakers, and the A Control software wasn't released with them as advertised.

With all this said, I would like to thank my sales engineer, Nick Graham, for always helping me and providing great service, support, and guidance. Additionally, I would like to thank Dominic Atkins for being amazing. THANK YOU GUYS!

Awesome

I'm writing this almost one year after my purchase so the initial honeymoon has been over for a spell now. I love these monitors and am super happy I bought the pair. They replaced a pair of Adam A7Vs that I had for several years. While I was happy with the A7Vs, they are near field and I wanted something with more throw. Besides using my studio monitors for recording/mixing/producing, I also enjoy listing to my vinyl collection. Therefore I wanted monitors with longer throw so I don't have to sit so close while listening to records. These A8H speakers are amazing - near, mid, and even completely across the entire room. Over this past year, I have sat and played my vinyl collection and have heard new details like I never heard before in many of those old records that I've had for eons. Plus, when I sit for hours on end working on my own recordings, I am not fatigued. They are simply amazing. For the past year, I used a different sub than an Adam sub. While I was pleased, I wondered if the Adam sub would make a difference. I recently purchased the Adam Sub15 from Sweetwater and am blown away by how good this system now sounds (see my recent review of the Adam Sub15). Whether I'm working on tracks or simply enjoying vinyl records, I'm more than satisfied with my Adam Audio system. It's the best (and even sounds better than my high fidelity home audio system that I have in our den). Sweetwater is great and so is my rep, Ed Needler.

Adam Knocked It Out Of The Park!

I've been mixing on an older set of Adam A7X's for several years now. I kept looking to find a reasonably priced / high quality set of 3-way monitors to replace them - and Adam releases these new A8H's. Deeper extension into the lows, better separation & clarity in the mids, and that stellar ribbon tweeter that I've grown accustomed to. 10-out-of-10 on these - solid work Adam !!!

Amazing pair of Monitors!

I'm using these as mid-fields and all I can say is they are astounding. The stereo separation and dementionality are so good that I often find I'm using these as mid-fields and all I can say is they are fantastic. The stereo separation and dementionality are so good that I often find myself forgetting that the speakers are actually there. And with the A Control software I was able to set up a profile for critical listening for things like mixing and using Izotope Rx and a separate profile for playing music for clients. My Sales Engineer Norb Berninger was super helpful in getting my hands and ears on these.
