Elite Quality for Discerning Nylon-string Players

La Bella spared no expense in crafting its hand-wound Elite series classical guitar strings. Subtle material variations across the line deliver a unique blend of crisp highs, shimmering overtones, and full, resonant bass, giving you options tailored to your playing style. Precision gauges and medium tension further elevate the Elite series, making it a top choice among Sweetwater classical guitarists for its balanced feel and exceptional tone. And thanks to MAP (Modified Atmosphere Packaging), La Bella Elite series strings stay fresh and performance ready — whether you’re stepping onstage for a recital or fine-tuning your next piece.

La Bella: centuries of expertise in each set of strings

La Bella strings are the top choice for musicians ranging from world-famous artists such as Willie Nelson, Bryan Adams, and Ron Carter to everyday players like many of us here at Sweetwater. The company’s heritage reaches back to the Mari family of Salle, Italy, in the 17th century, and they became famous throughout Europe, even supplying violin strings to Amati and Stradivari. In the early 20th century, brothers Emilio and Olinto Mari moved the string operation to New York, founding the modern La Bella company. Today, La Bella strings are considered among the finest in the world, and we think you'll agree when you hear what they can do for your favorite instrument.

La Bella Elite Series Classical Guitar Strings Features:

Reviews

Used with a plectrum
Since this seems to be the biggest concern from people that I've read about these strings, I thought I would address this first. I began using the La Bella Folk Singer 830s a long while ago on an older nylon string acoustic I owned, but stopped doing so because the black treble strings seemed to die out into a dull plastic sound very quickly. I do not know if the black treble strings in these 900-B string packs are distinct from the 830s or if the company now manufactures them differently, but I have gone through three packs of these 900-Bs and have yet to run across that problem.

I was first interested in polished basses when I started experimenting with using a plectrum with nylon strings and wanted to get as close to a flatwound, non-aggressive pick attack for jazz as possible. I was not disappointed when I installed them. When it comes to feel and sound, I would say that (and I take great artistic liberty here) for a nylon string acoustic these are the equivalent of D'Addario Chromes. Performing non-muted sweeps with these strings is a completely unique experience. Hearing this statement would make any jazz guitarist guffaw, but the sweetest and warmest tones that I have ever pulled out of any guitar were on my beater entry-level Yamaha NTX1 and these 900-Bs through a solid state amp. I look forward to trying this with far better gear and tubes.

They settle very quickly, so far for me it's only taken about two or three hours to get them fully stretched and they also maintain their tune well into their lifespan. You will end up restringing because you've played them dead before they become a tuning liability.

Cleaning these strings is also just as a breeze as it is to clean flatwounds, and using even just a Miracle Cloth for a minute or so will render them iridescent and more polished than factory.

I believe the primary purpose for these basses is to reduce squeaks from the neck-hand, and succeeds. Were I playing fingerstyle I would need a better bout-hand grip and would avoid these strings in favor of the regular winds or even the flamenco reds from this company, but when using a plectrum I don't think I will ever use another nylon string.

Very nice tone, and playability
I recently bought a classical guitar for some parts in the guitar symphony I am writing for my wife, and I was absolutely stunned by the change in tone, and playability that these strings provided over the D'Addario strings that came with the guitar.

The flamenco part for the symphony now sounds so much more robust, and the tonal bandwidth is great. I will likely buy these again. I also bought some other sets, to experiment with what works best for me, but so far I am extremely pleased with this set.
