Amazing Mini Stack

I was skeptical about 20 Watts being enough power for the volume I was looking for but I was totally wrong. 20 watts completely rocks the 2x12 cab peavey paired with the 6505mh. It can even push a 4x12 with no problem. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Legendary Peavey metal tone with plenty of variety for all genres, not just metal. Also the crunch function acts as a third channel so it really is a very versatile little head. Reverb for days, more gain than you could ever need. Its a winner guys. I know the price is a bit steep for a 2x12 but in my opinion to have the cab that was designed to go with this mini head it is totally worth the money. Also Sweetwater has the best customer service in the business. They took care of an issue I had with the first cab fast and courteously. Huge thanks to Jacob Strutzman my sales engineer and everyone at sweetwater. They really do go above and beyond to keep their customers happy and coming back. I salute you.

This amp is a beast

I've been playing mostly with earphones with a boss gt-001 and was looking for a tube amp that I could play at reasonable levels in a townhome. After reading a lot of reviews and watching a lot of YouTube videos I decided to pull the trigger on the 6505mh.

I've been using it for about a month, mostly at home. While the amp sounds awesome at lower volumes, I found that it really starts to sound best when I push it a little bit more (5w, volume at 3/10). Unfortunately this volume starts to become a bit too much when you have neighbors. I'm thinking of getting a Torpedo Captor X to be able to use it with headphones.

I played it with a drummer and bassist recently, and was very surprised that it was able to get loud enough to be heard. On the 20w mode, the rhythm channel at 7-8 was perfect, and the lead channel was even louder. The drummer and bassist were impressed too that this little thing could get that loud!

I had to remove the front panel to leave only the grill. This lets the amp cool better (I've read reports of overheating but haven't experienced it myself), and shows the tubes from the front which I prefer.

The tones you can get from the amp are brutal. Any kind of metal will be covered. Cleans are hard to get unless you keep the rhythm channel on a very low pre gain. Reverb is good. 3 band EQ is responsive, a small adjustment makes a difference so you can really dial in the sound you want. The resonance knob controls how much bass comes out of the power amp, and allows the amp to produce more low end "oomph". The presence controls how much high end comes out of the pre amp. Both of these are also precise and help shape the sound.

The cab sounded a bit boxy at first. I removed the back panel and it helped a lot. Removing it was not as easy as they make it sound when they say "convertible" open/close back… The panel was screwed in, but also either glued in or the tolex had made some kind of bond between the back and the frame. After removing the screws I had to use a couple of thin but stiff rulers, slide them on the sides of the back and slowly pry it open. It took me a good 30 minutes to get it out. I expected it to just be a "unscrew and take the panel out" thing but it definitely was not.

Overall very happy with the amp and cab. You can get amazing metal tones at bedroom and band volumes.
