Portable Pedal Power Supply

Hate plugging your pedalboard in with extension cables? The Mission Engineering 529i USB Pedal Power Supply gives you the convenience of running your pedalboard with no extra cords. This compact device can power up to eight standard pedals using its large, onboard Li-Ion battery. The 529i can be powered from nearly any USB device or the included wall charger. That means you can charge up on the way to your show, or plug your power supply in before bed. Have 18-volt pedals? No problem. The 529i includes a voltage doubler cable that uses two 9-volt outputs to power a single 18-volt pedal. To get the most out of your pedalboard, choose the Mission Engineering 529i Pedal Power Supply.

Wherever you are, you’ll be able to charge your pedals. In most cases, you’ll simply plug the AC adapter into the wall. But if you’re in a jam, a little creativity will keep your show on the road. Reviews

Quiet pedals, happy amp
I purchased the Mission Engineering 529i in an effort to quite noisy pedals and it does just that. I was wall-wort/daisy chaining power before and pedal noise made my pedals almost unusable. This made my pedal train so quiet that I'm actually hearing all the nuances of the pedal effects that I'd never heard before! No wires running to the wall are a HUGE bonus. Pull the board out of it's case, plug in my amp, play. Couldn't be simpler. I love the charge indicator lights.

Busking with the Mission 529i
This is the only rechargeable 9-volt battery pack on the market. It works without a 120v power supply, so it is unique. All the other power supplies don't have a battery. They all require a wall plug, so they are not comparable. In fact, Mission 529i manual says that powering your pedals while simultaneously charging the battery using a 120 wall plug could damage the unit. So that's my only complaint. You can only charge the unit at a time when you are not using it. Why aren't there more products similar to this? We went through all those AA and 9-volt batteries, then to AC converters that use wall plugs, but never had a big-fat 9-volt like the Mission to do the busking jobs when you don't have power. Strangely, the battery powered amps and speakers (Bose, EV, Fishman, etc.) don't offer a 9-volt supply. They have a 12-volt, and a USB for your phone. I guess it's only a matter of time, but I would love it if I could power my pedals from a powered speaker or amp. That would be ideal for playing gigs on the sidewalk where there is no power to be had.
Great pedal;…but
This is a great option for shows that have no power available, or for just avoiding having to plug it into power. However, the specs say (as did the Sweetwater tech on my call before purchasing), that "Flexible charging options let you charge anywhere at any time." But when you open the package, there is a warning that says: "The 529i is intended to be used on battery power and recharged between uses. It is not recommended to connect it to wall power while powering your pedals. Doing so may cause the 529i to automatically turn off for safety reasons. Repeatedly recharging while in use may cause permanent damage and will void the warranty."

This is usually not going to be a problem in my situation, but for those days when you might have a need for many hours of use, the idea that you can't plug it in to charge while using was a bit unexepected.

Five Years No Problems
I've used the 529i for 5 years now and haven't had any problems. I also use it while plugged into the wall when playing at home since purchased, still no problems. I probably use it more plugged in than on battery.

I've seen the other reviews about use time and charge times. I've got a Strymon Mobius, Volante, Line 6 M9 with a couple of Earthquaker Special Crankers and have had zero issues.

If your worried about time on the battery I would buy a backup battery pack just in case. Besides, they're super cheap now and you can charge your phone and other usb electronics so it's multiuse. Zero noise issues as well.
529i use and advise.
When I first got the 529i, people were arguing about if you could charge it and use it at the same time. Talked to Mission engineering about this. Bottom line, you might(or might not) get away with doing both at the same time but doing so will most definitely severely shorten the 529i's battery life. You can count on those reviewers who complained the unit only lasted for months likely charged and used it at the same time. My solution? Bought as a second 529i and mounted it, like the first unit, on the underside of my pedalboard. When one runs out, I switch my pedals to 529i 2 and all is well. Works beautifully with my Sennheiser wireless setup.
