High-performance EVH Electric Guitar

The EVH 5150 Standard was built for high performance. But what did you expect? It was designed by Edward Van Halen himself! The 5150 Standard's basswood body yields a growling, mid-forward tone that pairs perfectly with its muscular Wolfgang Alnico II humbuckers. Thanks to a graphite-reinforced, quartersawn maple neck, you'll enjoy rock-solid stability, while a compound-radius ebony fingerboard enables exceptional speed and comfort. Designed to his exact specifications and intentionally positioned against the body, the dive-bomb-only D-Tuna-equipped Floyd Rose lets you mimic Eddie’s signature trem work with ease, along with giving you instant access to Drop D tuning. The EVH 5150 Standard has a kill switch for mind-blowing stutter effects and a low-friction volume pot for super-smooth swells. The eye-catching black hardware and matching hockey stick headstock add the perfect final aesthetic touches to this shining machine.

Quartersawn neck for stability and playability

The neck is one of the most important aspects of any instrument, which is why the 5150 Standard features a graphite-reinforced, quartersawn maple neck. Besides looking good, the straight grain of quartersawn necks is significantly more stable than plain-sawn necks and less likely to warp, twist, or shrink. Beyond that, this guitar’s compound-radius fretboard goes from 12 inches at the nut to a comfortable and flat 16-inch radius on the upper frets, ensuring easy chording down low and lightning-fast playability up high. The guitarists here at Sweetwater are awed by the incredible, unfettered playability supplied by the 5150 Standard.

Wolfgang Alnico II humbuckers yield classic EVH tone

The 5150 Standard comes outfitted with EVH Wolfgang Alnico II humbuckers. Superhuman chops aside, Eddie forged his unmistakable sound through incessant tinkering with guitar parts and pickups. To achieve his signature tone, Eddie paid particular attention to different pickup windings. The 5150 Standard’s pickups are the culmination of his experimentation. They nail Eddie's classic tone with muscular lows, singing highs, and snarling mids — all the essential elements of EVH’s elusive brown sound.

Floyd Rose tremolo for twisting, bending, and dive-bombs

The 5150 Standard boasts an EVH-branded Floyd Rose tremolo. First gaining popularity in the 1980s, the Floyd Rose’s locking design keeps your guitar in tune, even if you like to perform extreme pitch pyrotechnics. You can force the whammy bar all the way down to the guitar's body for psychotic dive-bombing. No matter how much you abuse it, you'll maintain your tuning stability, thanks to the Floyd Rose tremolo's locking design. On top of that, you can easily switch to Drop D tuning, courtesy of the 5150 Standard’s D-Tuna.

Why Buy Your Guitar from Sweetwater?

See how Sweetwater goes to great lengths to give you the very best online guitar buying experience. What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

Note: While demo items from EVH do not include the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation warranty, you can shop with confidence knowing that this item is backed and covered by Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Love it

Sounds great, plays great. Hard to stay in but working that out. Did i say love it

Awesome guitar!

Great guitar - the neck is super smooth and fast, and the flatter radius makes playing up and down the neck a breeze. Beware about the pickups, however... I took out the stock pickups to put some EMGs in, and I had to rout out a bit more wood to get them to fit. The current rout fits the rounded stock pickups perfectly, but makes replacing with the more square EMG pickups a bit more difficult

Absolutely amazing!

I use this for a RATM cover band (Tom Morello's toggle switch is too complicated for me), and it's really great. I even use this outside of the cover band. Pickups are great, low action helps me shred, even when I'm not shredding. And the killswitch is great. You really don't know how good it feels to divebomb and then use the kill switch to stutter the effects.

EVH 5150 Ice Blue Well Built Guitar

So I bought this guitar not to try and be like EVH but because I liked the specs (graphite-reinforced quartersawn maple neck, ebony fretboard, three-way toggle, basswood body, etc) and I am not disappointed. First the fretwork is well done with nice polished frets and smooth fret ends. The ebony fingerboard has rolled edges and is nice and smooth which makes it easy to move around. I love those two things right out of the gate. The pickups are more versatile than I expected. I can get a wide range of sounds and feel from them. They are also clear and articulate all the notes without being muddy. The nice smooth arm contour is great as well and makes the guitar very comfortable to play. The Floyd Rose and Kill Switch are nice to have for playing around but I really just like the build quality of the guitar more than anything. It just sounds great and is rock solid. The only two things I would call out are the fretboard cream dot inlays which are so plain they almost look cheap. Some abalone dots would have looked cool on this metallic blue guitar. Also, the jack plate is just a square piece of metal slapped on the guitar but really doesn't fit that well. It sort of stands out like a sore thumb. Would have been easy to put a more contoured jack plate on there so not sure why they didn't to that. Minor things that don't affect playability at all - just things they could upgrade on a $ guitar. Overall I love this guitar very much for the things that really matter. I see this guitar lasting a long time and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good guitar in this price range. I also paid to have Sweetwater set it up prior to shipping and boy did they do a great job. It was perfect upon arrival and after some very slight tuning I was up and running. Thanks to Luthier Patrick B. for doing a fantastic job on setup.

EVH 5150 Ice Blue Metallic

This guitar is fantastic. I had never played an EVH guitar before, but it had the specs that I was looking for so I went ahead with the purchase. The stand out to me is the playability and sound. I've played guitar for nearly 40 years and have had many of the top brands. The pickups are the best I've ever played (my previous standard set up was a Seymour Duncan JB and '59 combo). If you're a fan of fast playing and great sounding guitars, give this one a go. My sales rep Andy was extremely helpful and as always the service at Sweetwater is second to none.
