Reviews

An utter dissapointment.
I play with vintage 1970s hi-hats that have small 6-7mm holes, which are just small enough to prevent me from using most modern clutches. I read good things about this clutch on a drumming forum, and have been pleased with all my past gibraltar purchases, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Well, it does fit my 1970's cymbals, but that's about the only good thing I have to say about it. There's no markings on it to indicate it was even made by gibraltar, which I find odd. It looks for all the world like it was made out of spare parts found lying around a Guitar Center demo floor. The top and bottom metal cups are just standard collar washers you'd put on a cymbal stand that didn't have a plastic collar, and the felts are just standard cymbal felts. The wing nut has to be forced over the top washer in order to tighten it, making it difficult and slow to get it tight enough; even with pliers I found it had a mediocre grip on the pull rod. Perhaps the worst factor is that, for some reason, they opted to use two separate knurled nuts instead of one. They are slightly different thicknesses, and no matter which order I put them on in, the one on the bottom would unscrew and fall with a clang into the bottom cymbal, something I've never had a clutch do before in my life. The only way to stop them from unscrewing is to tighten them until it mutes the cymbal, and I don't want to risk cracking the bell of a $200 vintage cymbal making it that tight. I'll use it for parts, but I can't play with this thing.
Music background: Drummer since 2019.
