Vintage-tone Acoustic Strings from Martin

The MM13 Retro acoustic guitar strings represent yet another quality, vintage-inspired set of strings in Martin’s Retro line. These strings harken back to the 1930s when nickel ruled the acoustic world. Made from Monel, a solid nickel/copper wrap, the MM13s let your acoustic’s natural wood tone ring through with a full low end, a high-end snap, and a solid midrange. The proprietary wrap on the MM13s is corrosion-resistant and impressively strong for long life and uncompromised tone. Martin MM13 strings are a favorite among acoustic guitarists here at Sweetwater.

Martin MM13 Retro Acoustic Guitar Strings Features:

  • Vintage-inspired acoustic strings deliver superior acoustic tone
  • Monel nickel/copper alloy wrap wire is super strong and generates a cool vintage sonic vibe
  • Strings produce a crisp sound that mellows quickly to a warm, woody tone

Buy them
If you own a parlor style guitar,Jim Dandy,Dirty 30's,vintage Stella, buy them. Also great on All Mahogany 00,and 000 style guitars. My Stella and Jim Dandy both came to life with these strings. Had to switch from ceramic back to glass for slide because of slight scratchiness, but no problem.

I now understand all the hype with this strings.
It's hard to explain but it has a "broken in" and warmth like quality you can't find in common phosphor bronze strings. They really bring out the best in my Martin D-18. The retros are now my go to and having great longevity is a plus.

Phenomenal!
I've seen so many recommendations over these in forums! I had to get a set and try them. No disappointment here! I love the sound of these strings. Very warm, but not overly punchy! Gives it a vintage sound. Makes my D-18 sounded even sweeter! I will definitely purchase these again!

Martin Retros strings are fantastic!
If you want a sound that is broken in and allows more of the nuances of your actual guitar instead of the "color" that strings can provide, you might consider Retros. They are very fundamental but warm and punchy, kind of like what you get with a broken in set of 80/20 strings but much warmer across the spectrum and last way longer. In fact, I've gotten 4 months of daily play on my main guitar with these! They even outlast coated strings in my opinion, and like a fine wine, they actually sound better the older they get.

I realize that they are not everyone's cup o'tea, and that is okay. These are not overtone laden, bold and brassy. If you want that sound look elsewhere. But if you want warm, smooth, or just a great fingerstyle string these are great. Very stable tuning, a little less tension, and work especially well on mahogany/ sapele topped guitars or even carbon fiber.

Like any string, just make sure that you allow them to break in before swinging the gavel. They sound so different from other strings, but especially phosphor bronze. Your ears may trick you into thinking you do not like them, but I promise that after like the 1-2 week period you might just find, like so many others, they sound absolutely fabulous.
Music background: Acoustic fingerstyle, Praise and Worship

Warm full sound, good life.
I use these in medium on my Taylor 317e and they are perfect! Gives a nice warm sound, good note separation but not too much. They have a great bass tone, and still have clarity on the highs. They feel great on the fingers, and I run them about 6 weeks. No complaints on these strings at all.
