Celebrate 40 Years of PRS Innovation

Four decades down the line, Paul Reed Smith’s steadfast dedication to elevating the art of electric guitar building is as strong as ever. The PRS 40th Anniversary Custom 24 provides ample evidence for that fact, combining all the best bits of a modern PRS Custom 24 with a touch of old-school PRS vibe and all-new pickups. This guitar starts off with a timeless tonewood combination of a mahogany foundation and an Artist Grade figured maple top, delivering rich and resonant response to your every note. Next, the mahogany neck splits the difference between visual panache and high-performance playability with a compact Pattern Thin profile, 10-inch-radius ziricote fingerboard, and Old School Birds inlays. You also get two of PRS’s hard-hitting DMO humbuckers and a 5-way blade pickup switch to tackle everything from soaring vocal-like lead lines to clear and clarity-packed rhythm tones. Topped off with PRS Phase III locking tuners, a Gen III tremolo bridge, and a pre-factory headstock eagle inlay, the PRS 40th Anniversary won’t be here for long — only 200 of these superb 6-strings are available, and Sweetwater only gets 26!

A timeless combination of top-class tonewoods

PRS instruments are revered by guitarists across the globe for the impeccable quality of their world-class tonewoods, and this PRS 40th Anniversary Custom 24 more than lives up to that lofty reputation. It all starts with an Artist Grade figured maple top, rippling with complex figuring and eye-catching grain patterns. In classic PRS fashion, the top is then supported by a lively mahogany body that rounds over the crisp bite of the maple top with a warmer, richer timbre. It’s an all-time-classic tonewood duo that harkens all the way back to Paul’s mentor Ted McCarty in the 1950s, championed for its full-bodied response and prodigious sustain.

Pattern Thin neck profile

This 40th Anniversary Custom 24 has a set-in maple neck carved into PRS’s fan-favorite Pattern Thin profile. The Pattern Thin profile is a contemporary version of the traditional Wide Thin neck. It has a comfortable nut width that perfectly fits any palm when playing in the first few frets. Play your way up the neck, and you’ll appreciate how it widens while maintaining the same depth. In fact, the Pattern Thin’s depth only increases by about a millimeter from the first fret to the 12th — how’s that for consistency?

High-class hardware abounds

Paul Reed Smith’s ceaseless search for 6-string perfection is perhaps best exemplified in PRS’s ultra-high-performance hardware appointments. In particular, this 40th Anniversary Custom 24 boasts a PRS Gen III tremolo that allows for deep dives and expressive vibrato without even the slightest hint of tuning instability. Head on over to the headstock to be greeted by the 40th Anniversary Custom 24’s Phase III tuners — locking tuning machines that facilitate incredibly quick string changes and rock-solid stability.

PRS 40th Anniversary Custom 24 Features:

  • Limited-edition Custom 24 to celebrate PRS’s 40th anniversary
  • Warm and rich-sounding mahogany body, topped with an Artist Grade figured maple top with a retro violin top carve
  • Fast-playing Pattern Thin mahogany neck; sleek 10-inch-radius ziricote fingerboard with Old School Birds inlays
  • Packed with a duo of hard-hitting PRS DMO humbuckers; 5-way switch for quacky in-between tones
  • Top-quality hardware throughout, including an expressive Gen III tremolo unit and Phase III locking tuners with wing buttons
  • Pre-factory headstock eagle inlay and a commemorative PRS 40th anniversary truss rod cover
  • Nitrocellulose lacquer finish will gracefully wear in over time
  • Includes PRS ATA Multi-Fit molded case and 40th anniversary certificate

Why Buy Your Guitar from Sweetwater?

See how Sweetwater goes to great lengths to give you the very best online guitar buying experience. From our online Guitar Gallery that allows you to see and select the exact instrument you want to our 55-point Inspection process and our in-house guitar techs, we take the guesswork out of buying your next guitar online.

What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

You don't even have to play guitar to know that PRS instruments are in a league of their own. With their exquisitely figured tops and premium appointments, each PRS is a playable work of art. But it goes way deeper than the surface. Every time Paul visits Sweetwater, we get a deeper look at his amazing instruments. We've even hosted several PRS Custom Shop events, complete with Paul's personal Wood Library! Whether they're his most affordable SE electric guitars, top-quality acoustics, or amps, it's always amazing to see what PRS comes up with. What's more, we keep a ton of PRS guitars in our amazing Guitar Showroom, so the staff at Sweetwater can get hands on with all of their latest models. We'd love to tell you all about them.
