Taylor’s Gorgeous 314ce with V-Class Bracing

The Taylor 314ce is a solid Grand Auditorium with excellent top-end response and a natural, direct tone. The 314ce’s sapele back and sides have a warm, full body, with a bell-like sparkle and broad dynamic range thanks to a Sitka spruce top. You also get Taylor’s revolutionary V-Class bracing, which boosts volume evenly across the tonal spectrum, increases sustain, and improves the natural intonation of the instrument by creating a more synergistic response from the soundboard. The 314ce’s ES2 electronics provide convenient and natural-sounding amplification for the stage and studio with discreet tone and volume controls to help you shape your sound.

V-Class bracing: a sonic revelation

Bracing is the internal framework of an acoustic guitar that helps shape its sound. Although X-bracing has been standard in acoustic guitars for over a century, it creates an innate conflict between two key elements of a guitar’s sound: volume and sustain. The guitar’s top (its soundboard) contributes to both. The flexibility of the top generates volume (projection), while its stiffness generates sustain. And with X-braced guitar tops, here’s where the trade-off comes in: when something is made stiffer, its flexibility is reduced (and vice versa).

V-Class bracing changes all that. With Taylor’s V-Class bracing, an acoustic guitar top can be both stiff and flexible — for more volume and sustain. V-Class bracing provides stiffness parallel to the strings for more rigidity and hence sustain. Flexibility on either side generates the air movement necessary for robust projection. It’s the best of both worlds. This groundbreaking innovation also improves intonation — not only producing notes that are louder and with longer sustain, but are also more in tune with each other. Guitarists at Sweetwater are gobsmacked. But don’t take our word for it — pick up the superb Taylor 314ce and experience it for yourself!

Grand Auditorium body style delivers a full sound and sleek look

Acoustic players all over the world reach for Taylor Grand Auditorium guitars like the 314ce. This guitar’s comfortable narrow waist, rich, full range of sounds, sharp definition, and sleek look make it an excellent intermediate option for fingerpickers and singer-songwriters who depend on a good-sounding, good-playing instrument night after night.

Sitka spruce and satin sapele balance warmth and sparkle

This 314ce’s time-proven Sitka spruce top gives you good projection with just the right amount of sparkle. This acoustic-electric guitar’s sapele back and sides also give it a warm and mellow quality, similar to that of mahogany, for a full and balanced tone. Guitarists far and wide agree that the sapele’s satin finish feels good in the hands and looks great under stage lights.

Taylor ES2 electronics for a natural and dynamic amplified sound

Artists who play plugged in will appreciate the Taylor 314ce’s natural-sounding Expression System 2 (ES2) electronics. This system features a three-section proprietary pickup located behind the guitar’s saddle for clear and accurate sound reproduction. A master volume control and a pair of tone controls let you tweak your sound and output from the stage, and a discreet phase switch provides vital onboard feedback suppression.

Taylor 314ce Features:

  • Sitka spruce/satin sapele pairing balances warmth and sparkle
  • Grand Auditorium body style delivers exceptional high-end response
  • V-Class bracing boosts volume evenly across the tonal spectrum, increases sustain, and improves intonation
  • Venetian cutaway gives access to higher frets
  • Ebony fingerboard is fast and articulate
  • Dot inlays impart a sophisticated look
  • Satin finish with gloss top offers protection and good looks
  • Expression System 2 (ES2) electronics provide natural sound reproduction and a full dynamic response
  • Balanced output for noise-free amplification

Beautiful inlays, finish, & great sound. It truly is a high quality guitar. My son is really loving this guitar and really enhancing his guitar playing much even better. Thank you Taylor for making a high quality sounding guitar. And thank you Sweet Water for the 48 months special financing. You make it possible for us and other musicians to make beautiful music. One year review - Taylor 314CE (Left handed)

About a year ago I ordered a left handed Taylor 314CE from Sweetwater. The transaction was painless and the guitar arrived within a week of ordering it.

Once the guitar arrived, it was well packaged and came with the well-known and respected Taylor hard-cases. Upon opening it I was blown away. There is something special about seeing your new guitar for the first time, even if you've seen a dozen photos online!

Since then I have played this guitar almost every day. It has great action, beautiful construction, I have performed with the pickup system which works great (just make sure you have spare batteries), and overall I am very happy with the purchase. My one gripe is something got in the sound-hole (perhaps while it was shipping) and I have not been able to get it out yet - no big deal. Neck is well designed and ergonomic, satin finish is stylish, ebony fingerboard is great.

On the sound of the guitar it is what you would expect from a Taylor - bright, punchy, but with beautiful midtones thanks to the solid sapelle back and sides. I fingerpick, strum, and do all sorts of different styles – it is very difficult to put this guitar down.

If you are looking for a "pro level" acoustic that is not over USD, this is the guitar for you.
Music background: Amateur – fairly experienced and driven but not a professional.

In love with this guitar

I have only had my Taylor 314ce for a short time but I already love it. Going from an inexpensive "beginner's" acoustic guitar to this intermediate Taylor model is like being in two different worlds. The sound and feel of the guitar are incredible. I wasn't crazy about the finish on the back and sides of the guitar at first (I prefer a glossier finish) but it has grown on me. I haven't had any issues with the Expression System while plugged into GarageBand on my computer or while plugged into my Orange amp, the guitar still sounds great. The only issue I've had with the guitar so far is not wanting to put it down.

Great guitar

I have an electric and a different acoustic that I am not crazy about, so I had been to many music stores trying to find the right guitar. I am a lefty so it is difficult. I talked to to people at Sweetwater and they suggested this guitar. The guitar has great spacing for fingers that are a little larger. It has a great deep sound, and even when plugged in with the amplifier sounds great. I was very surprised by how much I love this quitar.
Smooth sounding, overall great feel.
thank you Sweetwater!

Great guitar

This is/was my first Taylor and the feel, sound and action are all fantastic. The guitar is well balanced, light, easy to play and overall just sounds great. Absolutely loved the action, such a great feel along the neck. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because when the guitar is plugged in it does sound a little different then not plugged in. I found the "Expression System" difficult to work with and could not really dial in the right tone I was looking for. The great team here at Sweetwater gave me some tips which helped a little so I called Taylor and unfortunately got no response. Don't let that discourage you. If you're a Taylor fan you will not be disappointed.
