Super-comfortable Body, Vibrant Nylon-string Tone

Taylor's 312ce-N nylon-string acoustic-electric guitar satisfies the needs of both traditional nylon-string guitarists and steel-string players looking to branch out. In addition to its super-comfortable Grand Concert body, this instrument provides you with impressive dynamic range, with both clear brightness and rich depth. The combination of sapele - a mahogany-like tonewood - and a Sitka spruce top projects effortlessly and supplies an endless well of sonic warmth. Unplugged, this acoustic-electric guitar's Grand Concert cutaway shape offers exceptional tonal balance and volume. And, thanks to its onboard Taylor ES-N electronics, it also sounds fantastic when you plug in. Take it from Sweetwater - you'll love this Taylor 312ce-N acoustic-electric guitar.

Super-comfortable Grand Concert body style provides excellent tonal balance

Arguably Taylor's most comfortable body style, this Taylor 312ce-N acoustic-electric guitar's smaller-than-average Grand Concert shape is the perfect fit for anyone looking for a more manageable instrument. That makes this 312ce-N a particularly good fit if you're a fingerstylist or if you have shorter arms.

Sitka spruce and sapele provide balanced warmth and sparkle

This 312ce-N acoustic-electric guitar is a prime example of the high-quality tonewoods Taylor selects for their guitars. It features time-proven Sitka spruce as its top, which gives you wonderful projection with the perfect amount of sparkle. This acoustic-electric guitar's sapele back and sides also give it a warm and mellow quality, similar to that of mahogany, providing it with a well-balanced tone. Additionally, a satin finish with a gloss top offers protection, good looks, and a smooth feel to the touch.

Taylor ES-N electronics deliver a natural amplified sound

If you play plugged in, then you're going to love the Taylor ES-N electronics built into this 312ce-N acoustic-electric guitar. The key to this fantastic system is the under-saddle transducer. It's custom designed to complement the voice of nylon-strung instruments and gives you ample tone-shaping opportunities without disrupting the aesthetic of the instrument.

Taylor 312ce-N Nylon-string Acoustic-electric Guitar Features:

  • Sitka spruce and sapele provide balanced warmth and sparkle
  • Ebony fingerboard provides phenomenal comfort and playability
  • Super-comfortable Grand Concert body style provides excellent tonal balance
  • Taylor ES-N electronics deliver a natural amplified sound
  • Small diamond fingerboard inlay and Indian rosewood headstock overlay for elegant appearance
  • Satin finish with gloss top offers protection and good looks

I love my new Taylor 312ce-N nylon string guitar

Recently I purchased a Taylor 312ce-N nylon string guitar. I've never owned a nylon string guitar before. On my steel string guitars, I play fingerstyle guitar with song choices in the Ragtime and Blues variety. I wanted to expand my song choices to include Latin melodies like "Girl from Ipanema" and jazz tune like "Blue Moon". I wanted to learn about chord inversions and chord progressions. I felt like I needed a nylon string to play this type of music long term.

I thought the Taylor 312ce-N would be a great first nylon string guitar and it has been. Taylor has built the 312ce-N guitar with many hybrid features different from a standard nylon string guitar. These tweaks include a 1 7/8 in. nut verses a typical 2 in. nut. The fret board has a slight radius vs. being flat. The Grand Concert body size is comfortable and has a rich wonderful tone from the Sapele back and sides and the Sitka Spruce top. The bass has a strong warm tone, and the treble has that well known Taylor sparkle.

It was an easy transition to play the 312ce-N instead my steel string guitars (Taylor 814ce and Martin OM-28E). The 12-fret design reduces the string tension so playing new chord shapes found with Jazz chord inversions are much easier than with my steel string guitars. I typically don't play plugged into an amp so I'm happy with the guitar's natural strong projection.

I like the glossy guitar top finish and the satin finish on the back and sides. The string height and fit and finish of the guitar is the typical Taylor high quality. This guitar plays and sound like a much more expensive guitar. I like it and it has become a new favorite guitar for me.

My last comments are about the process of buying a guitar from Sweetwater. The guitars sold online have never been played by the public unless noted as a "Demo". The high-resolution photos provided with each guitar being sold on the Sweetwater web site are wonderful. You can clearly see the grain and any silk on the guitar top. You also will have your own personal Sale Engineer available to answer all your questions you might have on the guitar you are looking at. I've never felt any pressure to buy a guitar or any other item from Sweetwater staff when talking and working with someone. Shipping of your guitar is easy to track. I really like the ability to have a guitar shipped to the local Walgreens where it can be signed for and picked up when it's convenient by me. I would recommend giving Sweetwater a try for any of your Musical or Instrument needs.

Can't put this one down down

I'm a steel-string player for the most part. I took this guitar off the wall of the music shop out of curiosity. I had not played a nylon guitar since I was a kid. After playing just a couple of chords, I was amazed at the ease of playing and the depth of tone. I knew right then that I would be taking it home. I simply had to have it. It's so different yet it plays much like any other guitar. The warmth and playability of this beautiful instrument wakes me up in the morning as I drink a cup of coffee and joins me later in the day on the couch while watching TV. This is a fun and relaxing addition to my collection and very different from anything else I have. It's a very cool thing indeed.

Taylor 312ce-N Nylon Acoustic-Electric Guitar

I started taking guitar lessons again after decades of not playing. My instructor told me I have the wrong guitar for classical. So, I went to Sweetwater and tried out about 15 guitars. This one makes me sound better than I actually am. It plays like butter. Love. It.

A perfect guitar

This is am amazing guitar that gives you the wonderfully warm sounds of a nylon string instrument, but plays more like a steel string. The playability is top-notch and it sounds wonderful. There are other crossovers, but if you buck up on this one you will know where your money went when you play it. I love the 12 fret design, it feels so nice.
