Value-packed Taylor 12-fret Grand Concert

Combining understated aesthetics, tone-enhancing details, and amazing value, Taylor’s 300 Series guitars are incredibly popular. The richly grained Sitka spruce top of the 312ce 12-fret Grand Concert V-Class acoustic-electric pairs beautifully with its sapele back and sides to deliver a powerful, beautifully balanced sound with punchy midrange focus and clear treble — a sound forged by Taylor’s revolutionary V-Class bracing and amplified flawlessly by the onboard Expression System 2 electronics. The 312ce is a perennial favorite here at Sweetwater, and it’s easy to see — and hear — why. While you delight in its beautiful tone, your eyes will savor the 312ce’s tasteful appointments.

V-Class bracing: a sonic revelation

Bracing is the internal framework of an acoustic guitar that helps shape its sound. Although X-bracing has been standard in acoustic guitars for over a century, it creates an innate conflict between two key elements of a guitar’s sound: volume and sustain. The guitar’s top (its soundboard) contributes to both. The flexibility of the top generates volume (projection), while its stiffness generates sustain. And with X-braced guitar tops, here’s where the trade-off comes in: When something is made stiffer, its flexibility is reduced (and vice versa). V-Class bracing changes all that.

With Taylor’s V-Class bracing, an acoustic guitar top can be both stiff and flexible, for more volume and sustain. V-Class bracing provides stiffness parallel to the strings for more rigidity and, hence, sustain. Flexibility on either side generates the air movement necessary for robust projection. It’s the best of both worlds. This groundbreaking innovation also improves intonation by producing notes that are not only louder and have longer sustain, they’re also more in tune with each other. V-Class bracing boosts volume evenly across the tonal spectrum, increases sustain, and improves the natural intonation of the instrument by creating a more synergistic response from the soundboard. This fosters a more harmonious relationship between the notes you play, helping chords to ring out in cohesive splendor. Pick up a Taylor with V-Class bracing and experience it for yourself.

Ideal for fingerstyle and tracking

For fingerstyle and tracking, Sweetwater’s guitar gurus favor Taylor’s Grand Concert body style, which gives you clarity and balanced tone that lends itself to layering with other instruments in thicker arrangements where a larger-bodied acoustic would take up too much sonic real estate. The 12-fret neck join gives this instrument an easy, relaxed handfeel, while the shifted bridge location dials up midrange assertiveness. This guitar’s smaller Grand Concert body and tapered waist not only make it a great studio and stage guitar, but its short scale and lighter string tension also make it easier to play — perfect for younger players with small hands. It also makes for a more efficient design, in that the smaller body is inherently stronger, which enables it to be more lightly braced, making it easier to set the strings in motion.

Exceptional tonewoods deliver timeless tone

As a top tonewood, Sitka spruce offers a combination of strength and elasticity that delivers a broad dynamic range with crisp articulation that’s ideal for a wide range of playing styles, from delicate fingerpicking to aggressive flatpicked strumming. Sapele, used for the back and sides of the 312ce 12-fret, is tonally similar to mahogany, but its higher density tends to produce a slightly brighter sound with more high-end shimmer. The characteristic sapele sound is consistently balanced across the tonal spectrum, which makes it, again, suitable to a broad range of playing styles.

Cutting-edge Taylor Expression System 2 electronics

If you play plugged in, you’re going to love the Taylor Expression System 2 (ES2) electronics built into your 312ce 12-fret. The key to this fantastic system is the 3-section proprietary pickup located behind the saddle. Because of where it’s positioned and how it’s integrated into the guitar’s saddle, the ES2 pickup provides you with remarkably clear and accurate sound. In addition to a master volume control, a pair of tone controls lets you tweak your highs and lows to get the sound you need, and a discreet polarity switch offers vital onboard feedback suppression.

Everything you've heard is true.

Ok so like every Taylor, this guitar is awesome.

The neck is so easy to play. The body is comfortable.

It looks better in person. On that though, the descriptions talk about the guitar has satin finish and it does, except the spruce top (on mine, the top is most definitely gloss).

What makes it special is how big the sound is for what feels like a small guitar.

The 12 fret design makes the cowboy chords even more comfortable (at the expense of losing the 19 and 20th frets, which I don't ever play when on acoustic). That pushes the bridge back and just like the big reviewers say, the bass is massively improved (sometimes it's almost too much).

I love concert bodies, so much more comfortable to play. This is the loudest concert size guitar I've ever played.

I'm not sure if it's the v bracing or not (first time with V brace) but the sustain on this guitar is surprising. Notes will ring out for days and often times the unplugged guitar almost sounds like it has an active plate reverb.

The ES2 pups are pretty good

Addicting playability

I had liked the idea of having a grand concert 12 fret cutaway.Having a Taylor GC3 for sometime I have become very comfortable with the size of the body and thought a cutaway (CE) and a shortened scale could only make things better.I was able to play a 312 ce 12 fret at this years NAMM show in Anaheim and loved it.Now I have my newest addition and have found myself addicted to this comfortable ,great playing Guitar that also sounds fantastic by the way,the fingerboard laying deeper into the body really gives this guitar a great tone. The Taylor expression pickup system is really great, found it easy to get a balanced plugged in tone. This little guitar like my other Taylor's exude quality,I hold it and rotate it around to see all the amazing little construction details, fine guitars really are works of art! This will make (3) Guitars that I have purchased through Sweetwater music
I have (5) Guitar centers within 15 miles of my house and like I told Dan Vranic (Sweetwater sales technician ) I choose to purchase from a company 2000 miles away, always a great experience and love seeing the exact guitar that I will receive, nobody does that! Thank you Dan for always taking such care with my orders.it keeps me coming back.

Outstanding guitar

I was looking for an all wood shorter scale, comfortable guitar to play. Having owned a 214ce and 224ce I was familiar with Taylor quality and playability so 2 years ago I bit the bullet and purchased this beauty. Well worth the investment! The quality is impeccable, it's easy on the hands and the tone is balanced with a pronounced low end, nice sparkle and overall warmth, and holds it's own when played with other larger sized guitars. I was so impressed with this guitar that I purchased it's sister 12 string 352ce.
Music background: Playing for pleasure in retirement.

Great guitar

I purchased this guitar upon the recommendation of a friend, when I mentioned wanting a 12 fret and a smaller bodied guitar than my Martin hd35. I have a 12 fret Alvarez, which is a fine little blues box, but wanted something to bridge the difference between the two. I had purchased a Martin gpc 16e, my first Martin, prior to the 35. All are great guitars with their own unique qualities. Wanting an all solid woods guitar and my budget, the Taylor was chosen upon the recommendation of an owner and Mason Bouvier of Sweetwater. Initially I thought there was an issue with the faulty tone controls when initially plugged into a pignose hog battery amp. The volume produced excessive static and the bass, treble had no effect? Plugging into my Fishman artist acoustic amp proved that the issue was with the hog, which works fine with electric guitars. I don't have the technical knowledge to understand that, but I'm certain that Mason will have the ability to explain the situation.
Thanks to Mason, Sweetwater, the techs, Chuck, and all involved in the organization for their commitment to excellence and and the no interest payment plan which makes quality instruments available to everyone.! I highly recommend this guitar to finger pickers, light flat pickers, it is not not a heavy bass boomer, but it is so balanced in the sound the Martin boom and volume is not missed unless you're picking with other dreadnought sized guitars. Amped or miced it holds it's own. It should be suitable for most acoustic situations. It does what it was designed to do, very comfortable body, neck size, stays in tune, beautiful finish, unless you're"muscle memory" trained, you may miss the fret markers on the fretboard? If you're mostly hard driven bluegrass, rock, or country, this is probably not the best choice, but it's not a dreadnought so that's how it works! Enjoy!!
