Still good, but not as it used to be
I've been using 224S for 20 years. Actually got turned on to it because sweetwater's house XLR/TRS cables have been made with this wire since the dawn of time. The original cable used to have a thicker diameter, was more limp and had twine filler inside. I much preferred the old style because the added weight from the thicker jacket and extra limpness made my cables lay flat on the floor no matter what. Current 224 is a little thinner, lighter and less limp, therefore slightly more prone to coils lifting off the floor slightly, causing a potential trip hazard. Still minimal memory as long as you wrap your cables right (over/under). Having said that, I don't really know of an alternative that would be much better and wouldn't cost double, so I am sticking with 224S. I am soldering at 775 degrees and the inner conductor jackets don't immediately melt, which is a clear sign of quality cable. Sweetwater's service and shipping are top notch as always!
