Ovation’s Invincible Adamas Acoustic-electric Guitar

Inspired by adamas, the Greek word for invincibility from which our word for diamonds also hails, Ovations builds its Adamas guitars for durable performance with beauty and refinement. Much like diamonds, the Adamas is a creation of natural pressure and human ingenuity. Ovation builds each Adamas guitar by hand in Connecticut using advanced manufacturing technology and ultra-premium materials that exude elegance. Strum unplugged to enjoy the naturally rich resonance of the Adamas’ carbon fiber top, walnut neck, and smooth fiberglass sides, or plug into your favorite amplifier to relish in sounds of the Adamas' onboard Op-Pro Studio preamp. Sweetwater guitarists love how the Adamas looks and feels like an instrument straight out of a fine arts display, and yet it's also one of the most durable guitars ever made.

Hand-laid carbon fiber build

Ovation’s founder Charles Kaman pursued acoustic innovations with relentless zeal. The Adamas composite design takes Kaman's Ovation traditions to new heights with premium materials that are all hand-laid in the USA. Built from carbon fiber, one of the most resonant materials on earth, this guitar's ultra-thin top is practically impenetrable to environmental forces and delivers premium tone and performance regardless of weather or humidity — temperature will never affect your tone. Plus, the top is hand fitted using Adamas Suspended Top technology (AST) that delivers warm lows and crystalline clarity that refines carbon fiber design even further.

Deep Contour composite body

The Adamas’ fiberglass back and siding is balanced and built in the iconic Ovation Deep Contour body shape which not only maximizes acoustic output but is also ergonomic and designed to keep you comfortable in any playing position.

Impeccable aesthetics

Adamas guitars are not only instruments, but also works of art. The Adamas 1687 features textured glass-filled binding, a satin finish, and carved walnut epaulets that adorn the soundholes on the body. The crowning jewel is the headstock’s elegant blossom cap made from walnut with a rich fan design that’s the ultimate just-for-looks statement piece on this luxury guitar.

Supreme playability

The Adamas’ stunning neck is built from walnut with a ''Soft V'' profile and natural satin finish that’s supremely sturdy yet smooth. The fingerboard is made from matching walnut infused with resin that matches the hardness and feel of ebony. Forever chasers of perfection, Ovation developed a zero-deadspot fingerboard that shrinks typical volume differences from fret to fret down to inaudible levels. Unlike conventional acoustic guitars which may lose or gain as much as 10–12dB from fret to fret, the Adamas averages at most a 3dB difference, a relentless improvement that keeps projection consistent across the board.

Spirited Op-Pro Studio preamp

A boutique take on acoustic preamps, Ovation’s Op-Pro Studio system combines Ovation’s optimized acoustic-electric body shape with versatile tone controls and settings you won’t find anywhere else. Basic controls include a 3-band slider EQ with cut/boost/neutral settings, an LED light battery indicator, an oversized gain knob for fast volume adjustments, and an onboard chromatic tuner (A440Hz) with reference tuning ability for tuning alongside slightly out-of-tune instruments such as stage pianos.

Harmonic drive tools

The Op-Pro Studio preamp’s drive and expressor controls facilitate ultra-rich sonic expression when plugged in for modern acoustic tones that take full advantage of electronic circuitry. The drive control increases or decreases the depth of harmonic enhancement from an onboard exciter circuit which can be used to boost fundamental tones or make naturally-occurring harmonic overtones stand out more — you can tease every last drop of dramatic gravitas from your playing via the Adamas' drive.

Innovative exciter circuit

The Adamas’ expressor control adjusts the level of the onboard exciter circuit for blending fundamentals and overtones from the drive circuit to levels that are suitable for you. Together with drive features, these controls provide richness to chording and deep woody timbre to notes at the upper register.

Onboard compression/limiter

The expressor slider also controls a compressor/limiter circuit. You choose the compressor circuits noise threshold, so it only engages to cap volume when you want it to. The result? Dialed-in dynamics that retain their natural tenor. Plus, the compressor circuit is carefully integrated with the drive circuit so you can contour harmonic content within your set compression levels.

Ovation: a history of innovation

Founded by Charles Kaman in 1965, the Ovation Guitar Company is known for producing instruments with composite synthetic bowls, rather than conventional wood backs and sides. An aeronautical engineer by trade, Charles felt that there were weaknesses in traditional acoustic guitar designs, and that some of the composite materials he used to build helicopters could be used to control the instruments' vibrations. By utilizing the distinctive parabolic bowl that Ovation guitars has since become known for, Charles found that he could drastically reduce feedback, allowing for greater amplification onstage. Since the development of onboard electronics, Ovation guitars has become one of the most popular brands of acoustic-electrics in the world, endorsed by such artists as Glen Campbell, Nancy Wilson, Steve Lukather, Al Di Meola, and Melissa Etheridge.
