Optimized on Every Front

Taylor’s 150ce Venetian-cut dreadnought is the smooth-playing, shimmeringly vibrant, and flawlessly functional 12-string acoustic-electric that so many guitarists have been hoping for — including quite a few of us here at Sweetwater. Structured for resonant success with layered sapele back and sides and complemented by torrefied spruce top, the 150ce exudes a tonal balance that remains lively up front and is backed by a rich midrange and low-end presence. Greater projection, sustain, and bass response are achieved through Taylor’s asymmetrical C-Class bracing, making for an exceptionally well-presented acoustic sound no matter where you strum. Put your trust in die-cast chrome mini tuning machines and a Nubone nut to supply outstanding intonation and a snappy, even response to all 12 strings. The finishing touch? The 150ce comes armed with Taylor’s ES2 electronics, serving up sensitive and vividly detailed translation of your Taylor’s natural tone, complete with Volume and Tone controls to shape that 12-string jangle just to your liking.

Comfortable, Venetian-cut dreadnought

The wide, full-sounding dreadnought body style is the perfect vehicle for delivering a 12-string’s armament of doubled and octave notes. However, Taylor took it one step further by adding a Venetian single cutaway that gives the 150ce all of the roaming freedom to make the most of every creative moment with total ease. Its pro-player comfort is enhanced further up the neotropical mahogany neck, coming profiled to Taylor’s standard carve that’s guaranteed to lessen the toll taken on your chording hand, which is already working overtime. Topped with a 20-fret Crelicam ebony fingerboard, the 150ce gains the necessary sustain to let every string ring out with glorious song.

Performance-grade responsiveness

The 150ce plays like a true Taylor should, with a balanced response that lets the tonewoods and the player speak with as much expression as comes naturally. A contributing factor to this balanced response is its 12-string Nubone nut, enabling each string aboard the 150ce to respond with properly even playability, free from the imperfections and inconsistencies of bone nuts of the past. In terms of maintaining that professional-grade intonation, you can rest easy knowing that a set of dozen sealed, die-cast, and chrome-plated mini tuning machines are watching over your 12-string’s intonation. Players at Sweetwater who are familiar with the funky tendencies of 12-strings to stray from their properly tuned notes are rejoicing!

Taylor's Expression System 2

Taylor's Expression System 2 uses a proprietary pickup behind the saddle. The pickup's three individually calibrated, precisely positioned piezo-electric sensors respond organically to the instrument's acoustic energy as it's transferred through the saddle. In concert with Taylor's custom-designed preamp, the result is a natural acoustic sound with incredible dynamic range and responsiveness to your pick or finger attack. Whether onstage through a PA, plugged into an acoustic amp, or direct into recording software, Sweetwater guitarists are quite impressed with the transparent tone of the Expression System 2.

Reviews

Pretty sound
So far, only had it for a week, sounds great, very easy to play. I was worried the neck would be too wide but actually but fits my hand better than my Martin 6 string.
Music background: Professional musician
Better than expected
Sounds and plays like a dream
Music background: Half a century of guitar gigs ..
Taylor 150ce 12 string
This guitar sounds great, it has loud projection unplugged and looks very nice. I love to play it. Thank you Jeffrey and Sweetwater.
Compared to a Martin
Haven't bought yet but spent a lot of time side by side testing with an x series martin. Both were smooth and sweet, the Martin having a deeper bass and slightly more overall mellowness. The huge difference for me was playability, where the Taylor seemed to be so much easier to get clean chords and riff. Maybe a setup issue, but the difference was surprising.
Music background: Lifelong amateur, intermediate level.
Beats Expectations
I played through a number of 12 strings in this price range first.
The 150 was easily the most easily played of the lot. Having had it for
a while now I can say that it stays in tune most of the time and the
intonation is close to perfect throughout. It sharers much with the Baby
Taylor and so promises to remain stable and playable into the future. It even
sounds good and the pickup is unexpectedly useful. Gig bag is solid. Hard to
beat at this price point.
Music background: Lots
