Crash This Ride, Ride This Crash

Sabian's game-changing 22" HHX OMNI Cymbal is a crash and a ride. Developed in cooperation with acclaimed Swiss drummer Jojo Mayer, the OMNI doesn't give you the sonic compromise you get with other "crash/rides" you may have played. Whether you crash or ride it, the OMNI gives you amazing contrast when played on its own or together with other cymbals.

Serious drummers rely on Sabian

With Sabian cymbals, you're in good company - they have been supplying the shimmer on the top end of countless hit records for over three decades. First-call drummers such as Terry Bozzio, Dave Weckl, Neil Peart, and Mike Portnoy rely on Sabian for the sizzle atop their kits - and you can, too.

New favorite ride

This wasn't really on my radar before, but when trying a bunch of ride cymbals in the showroom, I kept coming back to this one time after time. I've never had such a good mix of clear stick definition with a lush, complex crash in one cymbal before.

It's amazing just how distinct the raw and lathed zones sound. As you would expect, the unlathed finish of the inner circle dries out the stick attack significantly, controlling the overtones, while still allowing a gentle, dark, complex harmonic backdrop. Think along the lines of a Zildjian Special Dry when riding in this zone, but maybe with just a touch more wash.

The outer, lathed zone, on the other hand, gives off a lush, lively wash. It opens up as readily as a paper thin crash, because it actually is much thinner than the unlathed part, and the wobble is visible. If you run your fingers along the bottom of the cymbal, you can even feel the slope where the cymbal gets thinner.

This makes it an incredibly versatile cymbal, almost like two totally different cymbals in one. And it sounds lovely and musical at all times.

Jojo Mayer's Genius Design

I've wanted this 22" Omni ever since hearing Jojo Mayer play it a few years back. I finally got one and it is a truly versatile cymbal! You can get dozens of sounds on this baby. It goes from pingy to washy as you move from the unlathed center to the lathed edge of the cymbal. And it's a slightly quiet but nicely balanced crash that's an excellent complement to a more typical crash cymbal.

Try it before you buy it,

Absolute top quality cymbal, but you need to hear it. There are places you can use this with your other HHX cymbals, but the 21" ride is a better all around piece of equipment. This is a tremendous "effects" cymbal, the bell is weak, the ride is a higher pitch than I expected extremely short wash. As a crash, short sustain, low volume. If I had to say " Buy this..." I'd have to again say, try it. Make sure it's the cymbal you want. If you can only afford one cymbal, it might take the place of your others for a small setting
Music background: Drummer for 45 years
