Clark W. Fobes is a professional clarinetist who performs with the San Francisco Symphony, the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra, the San Francisco Opera Orchestra, and the California Symphony. A virtuoso doubler, Mr. Fobes is regularly requested to play bass clarinet, contrabass clarinet, basset horn, and Eb soprano clarinet. He occupies the bass clarinet/contrabass clarinet chair in the Skywalker Ranch Orchestra and can be heard on many film soundtracks. A noted Bay Area clarinet repair specialist since the late 1970s, Mr. Fobes founded the company that bears his name in 1985. He closed his repair business in 2000 to concentrate on designing and handcrafting innovative clarinet and saxophone mouthpieces as well as clarinet barrels and extensions.
