To achieve the Meze Audio 105 Silva’s flexible yet focused fidelity, the company’s engineers started with the architecture of the headphones’ 50mm dynamic drivers, refined through numerous iterations of research and development. These newly imagined dynamic drivers give the 105 Silva a vibrant and versatile voice that thrives with virtually every musical genre. Additionally, electing to use a carbon fiber-reinforced cellulose composite in the W-shaped dome imbues the 105 Silva with its resounding top-end transparency and definition, while simultaneously reducing driver weight and increasing driver durability. The drivers’ resonance-reducing construction collectively mitigates harmonic distortion.
Stepping out another layer, we reach the titanium-coated torus, which surrounds the dome. Every groove in the torus is meticulously positioned at an exact 45.5-degree angle, dialed in to ensure the drivers reproduce sound fluidly and faithfully, while preventing distortion from stray, uncontained resonances. The use of a semicrystalline polymer, alongside the PVD (physical vapor deposition) method of titanium coating, affords the torus its robust structural integrity, rapid transient reactivity, and prismatic bass. The result is an unmatched clarity and musicality throughout its immense 5Hz–30kHz range. Furthermore, Meze Audio utilized a copper-zinc alloy stabilizer to encase the membranes, significantly reducing distortion and enhancing vibration-absorbing capabilities.
