Which Stage Snake Do You Need?

Audio Snake


Analog audio snakes (also called XLR snakes or multicores) run from the stage to the front-of-house (FOH) sound console. They commonly use XLR connectors and may offer stage returns. Inside the outer jacket, you’ll typically find separate audio lines for each channel. When considering your channel count needs, keep in mind that stereo signals require two channels, one for the left and one for the right. Audio snakes may be 25 feet to 200 feet in length or more.


Drop Snake


Analog drop snakes (sub snakes) typically run shorter distances between areas of a stage and the main snake that connects to the FOH sound console. Drop snakes are usually 25 feet to 50 feet and may handle 4 to 16 channels.
