Finally Pure Nickel Set That Works for Me
Well balanced combination, especially on bottom side. Sometimes I substitute G string for 17 (the set has it 18). Not sure which way I like it better.
All in all, smooth feeling, great sounding, long lasting (they sound great even when half-way ruined). Nickel strings are not as durable as steel or nickel-plated steel, we all know that...
Different
These strings have very nice string-to-string balance, feel great under the fingers and bend moderately well. I installed these on a Les Paul Jr. and it feels as if the wound and plain strings have a higher tension as compared to Ernie Balls and DRs. The tone produced from the wound strings sounds different. What is hear is more fundamental in the tone which I think would suit maple/ash/alder guitars like Strats or Teles as these strings would add a nice depth and warmth - much like how mahogany warms a Gibson. I'm not sure that they are the best strings for a mahogany guitar - next set of strings will likely be Ernie Ball 2250 Classic Power Slinky Pure Nickels. My 2 cent would recommend these strings for a Strat or Tele and set the action low at the bridge and nut as to compensate for the added tension and smaller string vibration. Thank you Sweetwater for the awesome customer service.

If They're Good Enough For EJ...
Nice strings, I took a chance when I got my EJ Strat. They sound good and last a long time. The heavier low strings give you some extra snap on the low notes, also really nice for some reverse-headstock strats I have. The reverse headstock (in spite of looking like some hair-band wanker axe) is supposed to cause less tuning hassles, since the skinniest string now has the least amount of travel from the nut to the peg. the downside is that if you try a Johnny Cash-style bend and snap on the bottom E you run the risk of the string jumping out of the nut slot. Problem solved with a .050 low E...I won't use these strings on all my guitars, but I WILL use them all the time on some of them. btw, Sweetwater has the BEST PRICE I found on these babies! Thanks to Forrest and all the great folks at the shipping dept., delivery was fast and free like always. Thanks again!
