MIDI to TRS Adapter Cable

Check which type you need
These works fine as soon as you connect it with supporting gear. There are two types of such cables and for example this one does not work with Korg line but works with 1010 boxes.

There are two different MIDI Standards!
There are two MIDI Standards - one for Arturia, Novation, 1010Music, etc.

The other standard is used by Korg, Make Noise, etc.

This product works great - and SOME gear will work with both types!

Did not work
I just wasted a couple hours on this thing. I finally pulled out my multimeter and a diagram of how midi pins are supposed to map to TRS. Tip and ring map to pins 2 and 4. I tested them with the multimeter and both read about 2 ohms. Great!. Sleeve is supposed to map to pin 3 (the one in the middle) but the multimeter was reading infinite resistance. I tried the test with 3 different midi cables that all worked fine and when connected to this they all show open circuit between sleeve and midi pin 3.

The nice thing about cheap, simple stuff like this is that when they work, they work just as well as one that costs twice as much. The problem with cheap stuff like this is that the probability that it doesn't work at all is non-trivial.
