The Sonic Magic of PWM Dynamics

Based on a proprietary PWM (Pulse Wave Modulation) gain-control circuit, the 2-channel Art Dual Limiter uses an intelligent detector to deliver classic-flavored compression and limiting without the distortion and noise artifacts that plague many vintage units. Art has been acclaimed for their value-packed tube-based optical compressors for over 25 years. Developed in cooperation with studio and front-of-house engineers, the Dual Limiter gives you a time-tested solid-state audio circuit with a classic control set. At Sweetwater, we know we can count on Art for solid pro audio performance without breaking the bank. The Art Dual Limiter, once again, proves the point.

Art Dual Limiter Features:

  • An ideal compressor/limiter for digital or analog recording devices
  • 2-channels of vintage-flavored dynamics processing
  • PWM gain control circuit + intelligent detector
  • Use between a mic preamp and signal processors, between pre-amplified musical instruments, or strapped across mix channel inserts
  • Selectable stereo channel linking
  • Balanced XLR I/O; 1/4-inch TRS active balanced I/O

TV Sound

Television volume levels vary widely from channel to channel and between programs and advertisements. I have purchased two Art Limiters, Compressors to wire between the TV set audio output and my Bose speakers.

The leveling effect of the compressor using fast attack and slow release has not altered the sound in any detrimental way while it does keep me from being blasted out of my chair to run for the volume control.

My only problem is that there is not an easy way to go from a 1/8 th stereo earphone plug to two monaural 1/4 inch telephone plugs. I was able to easily make my own from two easily available 1/8 inch stereo earphone extension cords and two sets of 1/4 inch male to male audio cables.

Couldn’t be happier

I needed a solid multi-purpose compressor for DI recording into Pro Tools standard, to simplify my plugin chain. Using this between my Mackie VLZ"s instrument inputs on channels 1 and 2, from alt 3/4, and into Apogee Element"s +4 DBU inputs, I can now literally plug and play, with settings to suit fat bass on 1, and dynamic clangy Dano baritone on 2. This comp is pleasantly lightweight, with plenty of adjustments for more than I already stated, with no noise, and a reasonable working temperature, which is a major boon for my small space. I was surprised to find no reviews, considering the reasonable price, dual channel, and great sound thickening transparency of this lil gem. If you are looking for a gain comp, this may not have enough power, but even that can be remedied with a powered mixer or preamp, and you"ll still end up with a versatile stereo comp for less than the price of most mono units alone! Truly a great product, as per ART"s MO.

Excellent Tool

Not sure why there isn't much love for this thing. It's a really clean, musical sounding compressor that's more versatile than its basic controls might imply. I can set it to be basically transparent, or I can squash the living daylights out of something. I wish it had a built in side-chain, but for the price, I'm not complaining. My only complaint is that the input threshold is very sensitive. If I only want to do a few decibels of compression, I have to keep the input almost all the way down, especially on buss work.
