Steinberg's 2-channel Interface with Rupert Neve Transformers

The Steinberg UR-RT2 combines the company's acclaimed D-PRE Class A preamps with switchable Rupert Neve Designs input transformers to deliver a rich musical sound with enhanced harmonics. The UR-RT2 offers zero-latency monitoring with effects using dspMixFx software and the interface's integrated SSP2 DSP. Included is the VST3 Basic FX Suite with the Sweet Spot Morphing Channel Strip, REV-X reverb, and Guitar Amp Classics plug-ins. You also get Cubase AI DAW software for Mac/PC and Cubasis LE for iPad. But it's the Rupert Neve transformers that make the Steinberg UR-RT2 truly special. Mr. Neve is a legendary pro audio designer, and the UR-RT2 adds his renowned sound quality to a compact 24-bit/192kHz USB 2.0 interface that offers flexible I/O, rugged build quality, and outstanding value.

Easy, stable integration with any recording rig

For the UR-RT2, Steinberg's crack team of audio and driver software developers engineered an I/O implementation that gives you both stability and flexibility, with drivers that support ASIO, Core Audio, and WDM standards. This means you can connect to all DAWs that support any of these universal standards. What's more, the UR-RT2 features CC mode, which enables it to easily connect to your iPad and work with a broad range of iOS audio apps.

Bundled Steinberg software for computer and iPad

The UR-RT2 includes Cubase AI, a streamlined version of Steinberg's world-class Mac/Windows production environment. On the road? Download Cubasis LE from the App Store for an enticing palette of recording and mixing features optimized for touchscreen operation on your iPad. Especially cool is the fact that Cubase can open Cubasis LE projects, so you can quickly capture your musical ideas on your iPad, then transfer them to Cubase for further development in your studio. With this degree of flexibility, you can take projects from concept to mastered album — all with one compact and cost-effective piece of hardware.

The magical Rupert Neve sound

Notice Rupert Neve's signature on the UR-RT2 faceplate. That's the Rupert Neve, the pro audio legend whose electronics designs defined the golden age of analog. Those of us at Sweetwater who have had the privilege of working on a Neve 8078 or its predecessors can attest to the fact that Neve's 80 Series consoles were indeed the pinnacle of handwired analog mixing desks. Mr. Neve has remained at the forefront of audio-circuit innovation for over half a century, and his current company, Rupert Neve Designs, continues to advance the state of the art with cutting-edge products that sound incredible and intelligently address the challenges of the digital age. The inclusion of Rupert Neve Designs input transformers in the Steinberg UR-RT2 makes this legendary sound available in a budget-friendly USB 2.0 interface.

Steinberg UR-RT2 - favorite AI to date

This is a great audio workstation.
The Neve preamps work exceptionally well with my microphone selection for vocals, and all instruments I have tried so far.
It seems to put a little extra something into the color of the track, that you can clearly hear. Solid like a tank, not a single problem with this unit, near perfection.

Transformers Are Legit

This is a solidly built interface that definitely lives up to my expectation. I own a few of the UR series interfaces, along with a Neve Portico and a Great River ME1-NV and the UR-RT2 more than holds it's own in this company. I was a little skeptical in regard to how the transformers would sound, but they really do sound good. If you want something a little bigger and fuller, just push the button. If you want clean and pristine, leave it out. I can highly recommend this unit.

Happy with my purchase

I'm not an expert in audio interfaces but through my experience I'm gaining some knowledge. I did a fair amount of research before buying this and have sort of come to the conclusion that sound wise, a lot of the interfaces at this price point might be pretty similar. I'm a big fan of Steinberg so far. The build quality is top notch IMO. Very sturdy. At this price I feel like the features make this one good. Obviously the neve transformers are really cool. They add a nice color and sort of grit to my ears. The built in dsp effects let you direct monitor with compression, reverb, and even amp modeling if that's your thing. It leaves options going forward with the line inputs in the back so I like that too. I wouldn't purchase a different one if I had to do it again.

ur-rt 2for the win.....

IF NOTHING else the headphone amp is 2.5 times louder then any device you own like the ur 242 or the ur22c or ur22 original or scarlette.

i just record vocals.....so the recording is usually clear and good through the d-pres.......but with the robert neve....it is distorted and cloudy yet clear and distinct. eq curves are about the same......im not ggoing to really know which one is better...but i bet i never switch off the neves. its is really cool.....sounds superb. makes me as a singer sound warm without doing anything to the eq or volume. the darn headphone amp though......geesh.......powers and works...that is worth $ extra all by itself. in my opinion.
