A Supreme Example of Old-world Craftsmanship

The Loar LH-700-VS is a truly top-of-the-line acoustic in every respect, boasting a premium tonewood construction and a tone that’s sure to please old-school archtop fanatics! This guitar begins with a hand-carved AAA solid spruce top for a deep, touch-sensitive response that can instantly go from intimate chord melody to powerful rhythm comping. If you need volume loud enough to rise above the rhythm section, you’ve come to the right place — the LH-700-VS’ back and sides are made from hand-carved AAA solid flamed maple for a dry, balanced projection that few other 6-strings can match. To pair with these high-class tonewoods, the LH-700VS’ neck sports a substantial Vintage “V” neck that’s carved from figured maple, then loaded with a sleek and smooth ebony fingerboard. The LH-700-VS is living evidence of The Loar’s dedication to bringing old-world guitar building straight into the 21st century!

Hand-carved all-solid construction

The Loar LH-700-VS boasts vintage style and tone, so it’s not much of a surprise that even its construction comes straight out of the old world of guitar building. This archtop’s AAA solid spruce top is hand-carved to provide maximum structural stability and a stunningly resonant response. What’s more, the hand-carved AAA solid flamed maple back and sides are ideal for playing in acoustic outfits, boasting a depth and articulate projection that dwarfs the volume of a typical acoustic! Whether you’re looking to dish out some old-fashioned jazz chord melody or simply need a new acoustic sound in your tonal toolbox, the LH-700-VS’ hand-carved AAA solid spruce top and flamed AAA maple body have you covered.

Vintage “V” neck

Fans of chunky guitar necks, this one’s for you! The LH-700-VS’ neck is constructed from rock-solid figured maple carved into a full-size Vintage “V” profile. Thumb-over-neck playing is effortless on this hefty shape, and players with larger hands with surely appreciate how it fills out your grip. What’s more, the natural peak found in a “V” neck makes it easier to curve your fretting hand around the neck, and it’s purpose built to conform to the contour of your palm. Finally, this substantial neck size goes far beyond comfort — because their design naturally requires more wood than a skinny modern neck, "V" necks are generally far more stable and resistant to changes in environment.

Why choose an archtop?

While electric archtops are as popular as ever, acoustic archtops are somewhat of a rarity. Here at Sweetwater, we’re often asked why one might choose an archtop over their more popular flat-topped counterparts. Besides their unmatched volume and projection, acoustic archtop guitars have a tone all their own and are most commonly found in jazz/big band applications. Dry, cutting, balanced — the tone of an archtop is far from your typical flat top. However, if you’re playing old-school country, jazz, blues, or simply need a way to cut through a mix, there’s really no substitute for an all-solid, carved acoustic archtop like the LH-700-VS!

The Loar LH-700-VS Archtop Acoustic Guitar Features:

  • Hand-carved AAA solid spruce top delivers a stunning resonance and touch-sensitive response
  • Hand-carved AAA solid flamed maple back and sides produce a dry, cutting tone with incredibly powerful projection
  • Figured maple neck in a full-size Vintage “V” neck profile is ideal for rhythm comping and players with big hands
  • Elegant ebony fingerboard in a flat 16-inch radius that’s perfect for complex chord voicings and quick lead lines
  • Floating bridge with an ebony compensated saddle to mellow out your tone and enhance intonation
  • Beautiful mother-of-pearl Flowerpot headstock inlay

Reviews

Amazing!!!
I've been looking for an archtop to add to my collection. After looking at some vintage Gibsons I decided to go with The Loar. This young lady is AMAZING!!! Solid woods all around, great beefy neck and set up perfectly by the techs at Sweetwater!!! Also, great customer service by my rep Zack, who took over when Brent left (big shoes to fill). Zack did an awesome job and I am very appreciative!!! Thanks to all at Sweetwater!!!

Love this guitar
I'll start by saying that my guitar is older (mid 2000's) so I can't speak on quality of the guitars currently being made. With that said, I love this guitar! It took a little while for me to figure out how to get it to sing but once I did I couldn't put it down. I own both a 700 and a 600 from the Loar. Both are great sounding guitars but the 700 is absolutely stunning. It takes time to break the guitar in. I think this is just how archtops are. I also found that putting monel strings on it makes all the difference in getting the full potential out of this guitar. If you are looking for an archtop that gives the vibe and sound of the old beloved guitars of the 30's and 40's without the cost of one of those golden era instruments then look no further.
Buzzing sound
The sound was superb, loud and with great tone. But I always get good service and better customer treatment from Sweetwater most of the time so I decided on getting this higher model from them expecting it to be the best since it was $:more. When I received the Loar it was double packed perfectly. I played it after tuning, I adjusted it so many times, expecting a loud guitar, even change it with good Martin strings. There was this buzzing noise, I raised up the bridge, still hearing it. I tap at the tailpiece, one of the two bars is defectively adjusted. I shimed it it a thin paper to insulate the vibration. It somehow solved the problem. But I'm not getting a clean sound specially on the 1st string E. I can not even use this for any studio work. Its not only muffled but too crashy in sound.
