Add Bluegrass Flavor to Your Songs

Epiphone's MM-30S mandolin celebrates parent company Gibson's heritage that began with Orville Gibson crafting fine acoustic guitars and mandolins in the late 1800s. The MM-30S is equipped with an A-style body with a vintage-style logo and inlay on the headstock. A solid spruce top sits atop the mahogany body, and the set neck is also constructed from mahogany. Gold hardware and an antique sunburst finish add to the elegance of this instrument. For an affordable mandolin that's steeped in history, check out the Epiphone MM-30S!

Great Mandolin

Love the feel and sound of this mandolin. Price was just right for a beginner like me. Only modification is I removed the pick guard it seemed to enhance the sound.
Music background: Been playing bass since I was 16, 30 years playing bass, 4, 5, and 6 string fretted and fretless. Been playing guitar for about 3 years, lead worship at my church on guitar and bass. Starting playing mandolin about 2 years ago.

Very fine mandolin for this price point.

This was not my first choice mandolin, but due to the need for a new mandolin for a specific weekend event, I decided to give it a shot. It is a beautiful mandolin. I am very happy with the wood, stains and lacquer that was chosen.
It took me a bit to get the setup to my liking and even then I was concerned about the tone. I tuned the mandolin and then left it in its case for a week. When I retrieved it, it was still nearly in tune!
After setup and some settling time I am thrilled with the tone of this mandolin. It is bright, but not tinny, and has amazing sustain.
I am very happy that I decided to get this instrument.
Music background: Gigging musician for the past 15 years.

A lot of value for little money

I have the MM-30E/AS. The "E" means electric. This new model has a piezzo pickup under the bridge, which is a great advantage when playing with other musicians who are amplified or in public gatherings where you need more volume. Because of that, the bridge is fixed in the proper position for the right intonation. It needed no adjustments. However, the strings needed to be changed, since they were old, even though the mandolin was new. The tone is very good, due to the solid spruce top and the gold tuners add to the elegance of this instrument. The chop chords sound good and it has a "woody sound", which is what you want. You get a lot for not much money!
Music background: Hobbyist, worship leader

Epiphone mandolin

Like most comments say, the mandolin doesn't come set up. I did the set up myself which wasn't too hard. I bought new strings with it and put those on first thing. The tailpiece cover was pretty hard to open but I got it eventually. The pickguard came with a protective platsic on it. It left a residue on it, that I'll have to get off with glue residue remover. The mandolin does sound very nice though, especially for the price. I recommend it. Thanks Abraham Sanchez for all of the help!!

Epi Mando

Good little instrument for the $. Needs a complete luthier set-up, though.
