Velvety Warm Tones Meet Strandberg's Iconic Playability

Jazz by name and jazz by nature, Strandberg’s Sälen Jazz NX is another fantastic entry into the world of semi-hollow instruments for the Swedish instrument manufacturer. At its core sits a semi-hollow mahogany body capped with maple and a mahogany veneer. These tonewoods produce a standout sound compared to other Strandberg models, with a fullness and clarity that are ideal for jazz and any other setting that calls for clean, articulate playing. The Sälen Jazz NX’s body is accented by two versatile MF Classic humbuckers along with Strandberg’s trademark headless design and EndurNeck profile, adding considerable durability and comfort. This axe’s upper register is easily reached thanks to its bolt-on construction and a low-reaching single-cut, with a rosewood multi-scale fingerboard ensuring fast playing across all 24 stainless steel frets. Many of today’s most innovative guitarists employ Strandberg guitars for all of their needs — pick up yours today and experience firsthand what this musical machine can do!

Semi-hollow body tailor-made for jazz and fusion players

As an instrument manufacturer known for their ingenuity and groundbreaking designs, it was inevitable that Strandberg would take their headless workhorses into the semi-hollow realm. The Sälen Jazz NX is perfectly catered to jazz and fusion players with enough versatility to handle genres and playing styles of all kinds. Its mahogany body sports a sprightly maple top with a striking mahogany veneer. This tonewood combination imbues the Sälen Jazz NX with plenty of the warmth and clarity necessary for intricate single-note lines and ringing complex chord shapes.

Incredible tonal array courtesy of Strandberg MF Classic humbuckers

To handle the demands of today’s discerning players and master technicians, Strandberg equipped the Sälen Jazz NX with a pair of their MF Classic humbuckers. Modeled after a set of timeless ’59 PAF pickups in possession of legendary pickup designer Michael Frank, these humbuckers deliver an unmistakable vintage tone complete with the trademark punch, richness, and musicality they have made famous for decades. These full-bodied pickups make this Sälen a genuine jazz machine, with a moderate output that works exceptionally well in fusion, hard rock, and metal settings. The Sälen Jazz NX's 5-way blade opens up an endless sonic universe for you to explore, offering several pickup combinations to choose from when honing that perfect sound.

Balanced headless design

The Sälen Jazz NX’s headless design removes mass from the headstock for lower weight and improved balance, so you can play marathon sets in total comfort. On the other end, Strandberg’s custom bridge hardware makes an important contribution to the tone of the instrument. Made of lightweight aircraft-grade aluminum, the EGS 7 bridge’s tight component coupling ensures that all the strings’ vibrations are optimally transferred to the tonewoods.

EndurNeck profile and bolt-on design for comfort and playability

At first glance, Strandberg’s acclaimed EndurNeck profile is sure to draw a few questions with its unique shape. Here at Sweetwater, guitarists will all tell you the same thing: the EndurNeck feels even better than it looks. The carbon fiber-reinforced neck sports a rear-shafted trapezoid shape, possessing incredible comfort and noticeable stability. Almost magically, you will feel your grip significantly relax when playing an EndurNeck, leading to longer playing times and fewer injuries. The Sälen Jazz NX's bolt-on construction, paired with a deep single-cut design, offers easy access to the upper register for increased playability and a more focused punch — a welcome feature uncommon for many other bolt-on guitars.

Multi-scale rosewood fingerboard

The fingerboard of a Strandberg is instantly recognizable for its multi-scale configuration that assigns each string a unique scale length. This allows low strings to intonate better at high tension and makes bending high strings a breeze. The Sälen Jazz NX’s EndurNeck is capped by a 20-inch-radius rosewood fingerboard with a 25–25.5-inch scale length. Not to mention, its 24 jumbo frets are made from stainless steel, a player-favorite fret material for its incredible resistance to wear over time.

Strandberg Sälen Jazz NX Electric Guitar Features:

  • Semi-hollow mahogany body exudes tremendous warmth
  • Maple top with mahogany veneer adds brightness and maturity
  • EndurNeck profile promotes proper fretting technique and reduces the risk of injury
  • Bolt-on construction with single-cut design for easy access to upper frets
  • Headless mahogany neck offers balance and reduced risk of breakage

Not just for jazz

I thought this guitar is just for jazz because it has jazz in the name but it can do way more that jazz

Strandberg Salen Jazz

Sounds great, plays great. After 40 years with "normal" guitars I adapted to the neck and frets very quickly. This is the fastest guitar I've ever played. It also requires less effort to play over long periods of time.Nice airy tone from the humbuckers, very resonant but I don't like the "split sounds" from positions 2 and 4.Fit and finish is flawless except for the inside of the "chamber" which is somewhat crude and visible through the F-hole.Highly recommended.

First Impressions

I received my Strandberg Sälen Jazz a few days ago. I was attracted to the guitar by the design, innovation and light weight and listened to several reviews on YouTube and podcasts. It is certainly a clever design with great playability. The EndurNeck is comfortable. The electronics work very well. But there are a number of bad points for such a relatively expensive instrument. The body wood is pretty average and the finish is not great: the inside edge of the f-hole is rough. The fret ends (unbound) are a not well dressed. One design feature that is bad is the position of the jack socket. After all the attention to ergonomics, the jack plug and lead emerge into your leg which is slightly uncomfortable. It comes with a very silly set of strings that seem to be the ones they fit to all their guitars including the 'Jazz'. No self respecting jazz player would play 9.5-46s. I changed them immediately for flat wound 13-15-20w-28-38-48 and it now sounds great. The good news was that changing strings was easy, probably easier than conventional tuners. But no thanks to the manual that is online, refers the Boden not the Sälen and is presented as a narrow landscape pdf, small font, limited explanation and five languages at once. Fortunately there are some good YouTubes. Finally, the warranty registration card had a QR code that takes you to a site called 'Spotprime' to register for some games and videos. Have they been hacked? Overall, it plays well and sounds good which is the main thing but the report is 'Could Do Better'.
Music background: More than 60 years playing.
