A High-Performance Multi-scale Axe with Modern Features

The Jackson Pro Series Dinky DK Modern HT7 MS is built for high-speed, down-tuned playing by virtue of its multi-scale 25.5-inch to 27-inch scale length. And it sounds explosive. Even before you plug it in, this 7-string electric guitar’s basswood body radiates warm, growling tones with defined mids that can cut through a busy mix of rapid-fire drums and throbbing bass. And when you do plug it in, multi-voiced Fishman Fluence Modern humbuckers churn out a myriad of hard-hitting tones. This Dinky’s hyper-ergonomic design is top-shelf all the way — its graphite-reinforced, satin-finished neck and compound-radius ebony fingerboard are guaranteed to unleash the full potential of your playing. You’ll also benefit from rock-solid intonation, reliable tuning stability, and easy string changes via this guitar’s Hipshot 7- to 21-degree fixed bridge and Gotoh locking tuners. Complete with aggressive-looking black hardware and an eye-catching gloss finish, the Pro Series Dinky DK Modern HT7 MS is a high-performance instrument that contemporary guitarists are sure to appreciate.

Fast-playing 3-piece neck and compound-radius fingerboard

Jackson crafted the Pro Series Dinky DK Modern HT7 MS to be a high-performance 7-string electric with maximum clarity, sustain, and sonic power. Its graphite-reinforced, bolt-on 3-piece maple/wenge/maple neck features a hand-rubbed satin finish for maximum low-drag comfort, while its fast-playing ebony compound-radius fingerboard is the ideal platform for heavy riffing and high-speed soloing. Down low, your fretting hand will value the 12-inch radius that keeps things nice and comfortable for natural, relaxed chord work. Up top, a 16-inch radius lays it all out flat for effortless, low-action, lightning-fast runs and wide string bends without fretting out.

Multi-voice Fishman Fluence Modern active humbuckers

The Jackson Pro Series Dinky DK Modern HT7 MS comes loaded with multi-voice Fishman Fluence Modern humbuckers. These revolutionary active pickups yield two unique selectable voices: a modern active humbucker and a unique wide-range humbucking tone. And unlike most wire-wound pickups, the Fluences deliver these classic tones without noise or inductance issues. With this Dinky’s 3-way blade in pickup positions one (full bridge) or three (full neck), you can use the tone control’s push-pull pot to switch between voices one and two. A number of guitarists here at Sweetwater swear by Fishman Fluence pickups — get your hands on the Pro Series Dinky DK Modern HT7 MS, and you’ll become a convert too.

Multi-scale neck tailor-made for high-speed, down-tuned playing

Multi-scale necks are tailor-made for down-tuned and technical playing. Their scale length is longer on the bass side of the instrument and shorter on the treble side, yielding better intonation, consistent tension, and equal attack between strings. Many guitarists here at Sweetwater have made the transition to multi-scale guitars. If you’re into thunderous low-end chug and high-speed soloing, you owe it to yourself to test drive one of these high-performance instruments.

10/10

Absolue guitar I've ever played in my life. Feels and plays and sounds amazing. It's so good it makes my other guitars feel inferior lol. I've never spend as much money as I did on this guitar however it had 0 flaws and played great.

Feels like I stole God's guitar!

I've been playing for 30 years, mostly metal/grunge/classic rock. I like Jackson and have a Dinky.

This is a phenomenal guitar for playability, sound, and look. I play everything on it, not just low-B stuff.

Pickups: The Fishman Fluence pickups sound great. The bridge humbucker makes this "smooth buzzsaw" sound with distortion that I love. The neck pickup has a very hot signal too and does overdriven Gary Moore-style sounds really well. And I've never used the "split" pickup configuration on any other guitar because it always sounds thin/hollow. This guitar has a great split sound, I think because both pickups are active. I will say that I haven't found any use for the "alternate voicing" when you lift up the volume knob. You can hear the difference but to me it just doesn't sound as good so I'm not using that.

The fretboard is outstanding. It looks WIDE in a very cool way because of the 7-strong configuration. The Ebony is very smooth and slippery and the inlays are subtle and look good. The Luminlays on the side won't "charge" to glow in the dark with normal lighting, but I'm not gigging on dark stages. The Sweetwater team set it up and I'm sure this is a shout-out for the setup as much as the guitar, but I have no fret buzz and the action is super low. I have the custom light-heavy strings and it's easy to play super fast.

I only notice the fanned frets when I play chords up the neck and appreciate how dead-on the intonation is, which is obviously the point. I worried a little about the fanned frets for barre chords near the nut but it's a non-issue. Super-easy to play rhythms without any "adjusting" for fanned frets.

The finish is unique and gorgeous. I'm not much for brown, and in some light, it looks "metallic brown" but it's dark and reddish and looks good. When playing, from above, it looks purple, and it some lighting, it looks wine-colored. My kids think it looks amazing.

The build is rock solid, I like to gotoh locking tuners. I also got the bone nut by Sweetwater. Didn't have a chance to try the stock graphite nut but the bone nut tunes well and I have sustain for days.

Great guitar!

So close to excellent!

I was looking for a new dj0nt machine and stumbled onto this beauty. The finish is gorgeous and actually has more of a gold flake in it than most pictures I've seen would suggest, I dig it. It plays comfortably and isn't too heavy (weight). I did find a couple of small imperfections in the fretboard but my local luthier says we should be okay, just keep an eye on them. I think my only real complaints about the guitar are the placement of the volume knob and limited 3-way switch. I was constantly rolling down my volume while playing by slightly bumping the volume knob, and knowing the diverse sounds the Fishman pickups are capable of I was surprised to find only a 3-way switch installed. I converted the tone knob to volume, and put a killswitch in the old volume spot which has been fun and helpful in avoiding the volume bumps. I've been considering a pickup swap or just getting a 5-way switch instead due to the soapbar routing in the body making alternative pickup selections a bit limited. I am going with 4 stars because of those unfortunate design choices, and because I was hoping to not consider customizing a guitar at this price point so quickly.

Lots of QC issues

I bought this a few months back. When it arrived, there were some small issues with the fit and finish that I initially overlooked —- a small indent on the fretboard and some ridiculous toolmarks on the neck binding. Probably should have returned it, but it played nicely so I ignored them. That was dumb. The closer I looked, the more problems I noticed. The fretboard was dried out and cracking, the pore filler in the neck was sloppy and not dyed correctly, there was a dowel used to fill in a hole in the neck, stuff that was just really ugly for a very expensive guitar with no case. The sweetwater guys are great and have offered to swap it for another one (which I will), but the finish flaws are kind of a joke. This should have been a B stock. The guitar sounds excellent, and it's super versatile (I've been using it as a baritone and to play surf music!), but I wouldn't buy another Jackson after seeing this up close. Certainly not for this price.
