Vintage Gretsch with TV Jones Pickups

The Gretsch G6118T-60GE Vintage Select 1960 Anniversary hollowbody electric guitar is a joy to play, thanks to its smooth U-shaped maple neck and premium rosewood fingerboard. It delivers a stunning open-sounding snap that matches with its TV Jones Hilo'Tron single-coil pickups to crank out brilliant highs, warm lows, and rocking mids. A Bigsby tailpiece provides plenty of twang and gentle vibrato effects. The Gretsch G6118T-60GE Vintage Select 1960 Anniversary hollowbody electric guitar delivers an experience that's pure vintage Gretsch.

Arched maple body provides your tone with excellent definition

Maple has to be one of the most lively, bright, and colorful tonewoods out there, which is exactly why Gretsch decided to make their G6118T-60GE Vintage Select 1960 Anniversary almost entirely out of this wonderful wood. At Sweetwater, we've found that this hollowbody's arched body yields a wonderfully snappy, open tone that, when combined with the broad sound and lively response of its TV Jones Hilo'Tron pickups, cuts through a dense mix and sounds great in any situation.

Sweet vintage tone from TV Jones Hilo'Tron pickups

The Gretsch G6118T-60GE Vintage Select 1960 Anniversary packs a wide-ranging vintage-style voice, thanks to a pair of TV Jones Hilo'Tron single-coil pickups. Essentially a single-coil version of Filter'Tron humbuckers, these pickups deliver a broad range of tones with brilliant highs, mellow lows, and lively response, reflecting the natural voice of the guitar.

Two volume controls + one tone control = exceptional sonic flexibility

It's easy to stereotype the Gretsch G6118T-60GE Vintage Select 1960 Anniversary until you play it, and then you realize you can pull off a lot of tonal tricks with it. With a volume control for each pickup, you can create your perfect balance between warmth, bite, and brilliance when both pickups are engaged. The master tone control lets you fine-tune your sound once you have the pickups dialed in. And thanks to the master volume control, you can take your tube amp from clean to growling without changing the balance between your pickups. Of course, you'll get sweet tone from the neck and bridge pickups individually, but there's a lot of territory to cover when you combine them.

Bigsby tailpiece yields smooth vibrato action

Nothing beats the character and vintage vibe that a real Bigsby-style tail piece adds to the Gretsch G6118T-60GE Vintage Select 1960 Anniversary. Based on the original design created by Paul A. Bigsby, this Bigsby Licensed tailpiece requires next to no effort to use, making it particularly easy to pull off slow, subtle, and extended bends.

Gretsch G6118T-60GE Hollowbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • Hollowbody electric guitar with period-correct specs
  • Arched maple body delivers a deliciously snappy, open tone
  • TV Jones Hilo'Tron pickups yield sweet vintage character
  • Highly playable standard U-shaped maple neck with rosewood fingerboard
  • 2 volume controls and 1 tone control create exceptional sonic flexibility
  • Bigsby tailpiece provides smooth vibrato action

Gretsch G6118T-60GE Vintage Select Anniversary - Smoke Green, Bigsby

Adam Cesarz ext 1700 is the guy I always use at Sweetwater. Never a worry.
Once upon at time I owned a used vintage 1958 Double Anniversary in Smoke Green, with Filtertrons, trestle bracing, the whole bit.
I have also owned made-in-Japan versions with a couple different versions of Filtertrons. They didn't have trestle bracing.
Decent guitars for the money, but THIS current production version from the professional line blends features from 1959 and 1960 and uses TV Jones HiLo single coil pickups, medium jumbo frets, and trestle bracing.
GREAT guitar that despite having half the coils of Filtertron humbuckers sounds REALLY GOOD!
I was a bit worried it might sound thin, but it does not!
The trestle bracing doesn't completely damp the acoustic sound. It still has a lively Hollowbody sound and is versatile enough for any guitar duties I'm likely to encounter. I have played Rock, Blues, Soul & Funk, Jazz &Pop standards, Bigband, for decades: in all kinds of venues from "Tuxedo" gigs in 1,000 seaters, to bar & grill jobs for peanuts.
The QC on this is immaculate. The tone switch is better than I remember.
The supplied strings feel great, sound great, and intonate on the space control bridge very well. The Bigsby works fine. As long as you don't get crazy with the thing it returns to tune very well. No more waiting to use it until the last song in a set.

Incredible Guitar

I have always wanted an anniversary in smoked green and like this one because it had all the updated features with the period accurate styling. Perfect play right out of the box and the helotrons pickups sound phenomenal!
Absolutely love this guitar

That "Great GRETSCH Sound" is more than a slogan...

I have had my Classic Sunburst Gretsch "Double Annie" (as it's referred to by enthusiasts) for over 14 years. If it has a Bigsby, don't dare call it a "Jazzbox"; it's a teriffic axe for Rockabilly, '50s style R&B; and of course, practically all things British Invasiin; the late Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones played one before the. Vox teardrop he made famous). I play mine through an original Vox Valvetronix Blue amp, and it sounds awesome.

Blown Away

This is my first Gretsch and I am absolutely blown away by it. Pictures don't do this guitar justice, it's completely stunning in real life. I was actually a little hesitant to spend this much on a made in Japan guitar, but the hardware and pickups are top notch, and the build quality and fit and finish turned out to be far superior to any of the Gibsons or Fenders I've owned. The TV Jones Hilo'Trons are very low output, but sound gorgeous clean and are the perfect type of gnarly with some fuzz and reverb piled on. The Bigsby works great and stays in tune reasonably well, although with extended use I do find myself needing to tune a little more often then I do with a tele or les Paul. The only other potential negative I can think of with this guitar is that playability it very limited past about the 18th fret. This is not really an issue for me personally, but for some folks I guess it could be. All in all though I am a very happy customer and definitely a Gretsch convert

Home run for sure

I purchased a 1964 original, played it for years in my first band and still have it. So when I spotted this reproduction I couldn’t resist. My current band is a classic rock and some country. So, I play a Les Paul Classic for the rock stuff and Telecaster for the country. I will not be bringing 2 guitars any more. This new Gretsch G6118T-60GE does it all. The vintage look and the current electronics makes this the best all-around guitar I have ever played. I gave up pedals a year ago and replaced with a Blackstar amp from Sweetwater. With that amp and the new Gretsch I can go from a great Metal sound to Jazz to Country instantly. Between the Blackstar and the Gretsch I have been able to experiment with more sounds and effects that ever before. This combination gets my highest possible recommendation. As for the Gretsch, this one is a home run and will improve the batting average for any guitarist.
