Drive Your Bottom End with the Skyline Decade

Lakland's Skyline Decade electric bass is an affordable, amazing-sounding, and highly playable axe. If you want to take the stage looking different, bassists at Sweetwater never hesitate to recommend the Decade's distinctive body shape. Playability? Hey — it's a Lakland! And how does it sound? Awesome. The Decade is equipped two high-output Chi-Sonic single-coil pickups that give you a wide frequency response, with a warm, low end, clear midrange, and crisp, smooth highs. If you're ready to elevate your bass playing, the Lakland Skyline Decade is the ticket.

A distinctive bass with "the right stuff"

Lakland's Skyline Decade bass builds on the company's considerable bass-making know-how. The Skyline Decade features a comfortable and balanced mahogany body, a fast-playing flat-sawn rock maple neck, and a rosewood fingerboard with block inlays. The distinctive body shape and headstock give the Decade the je ne sais quoi to set you apart from the crowd. And with its two high-output Chi-Sonic single-coil pickups, the Skyline Decade powers your bottom end with a distinctive Lakland growl.

Lakland's stateside attention to detail

The Lakland Skyline Decade receives the company's thorough stateside inspection and tweakage. Renowned for the impeccable boutique quality of their Chicago-made basses, how can Lakland's overseas-made Skyline Series instruments meet the company's fanatically strict quality guidelines? Simple. Every bass — regardless of its country of origin — goes across the company's Chicago workbenches and through the hands of its US luthiers before being delivered to a dealer. Lakland makes sure they're completely happy with every bass before giving it a pass. You'll find that the playability, tone and overall quality of Lakland's Skyline basses will meet — and exceed — your expectations.

With Lakland, you're in good company

Lakland basses have earned the respect of discerning players and professional bassists worldwide. Blending vintage comfort with contemporary features, Lakland basses are known for their impressive playability. Since the introduction of the company's flagship models in the mid-1990s, Lakland basses are famous for exceptional tone, playability, and build quality. Lakland's artist list reads like a bass who's who: Chris Squire, Bob Glaub, Chris Hillman, Pino Palladino, Bob Babbitt, the late, great Donald "Duck" Dunn — and many, many more. When you take the stage with a Lakland bass, you're in good company.

Lakland Skyline Decade Bass Guitar Features:

  • Stand out with the Decade's distinctive, comfortable, and balanced body shape
  • Warm, round bottom end, detailed midrange, and smooth highs

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Decade Bass Review

I've had it a few years now. Mine is red. Pros are the neck feels great, its light weight and comfortable and the volume and tone knobs are effective and simple to use. The passive pickups are problem-free and offer a clean and somewhat retro sound. I have run it with both flats and rounds and play with fingers and a pick when appropriate. Both feel great on the neck.
Cons are it's not great for slapping from a pickup or comfort standpoint with the slapping hand. Volume and tone knobs are plastic. Overall it's a very versatile and well constructed bass. It's my only fretted bass I run flats on for a nice fatter bluesy sound. I feel I get a more even volume across the neck and all strings vs rounds that seemed a little thin past the 5th fret on the G and D strings. Maybe a larger gauge would help. I'd recommend the bass for the quality, design and price.

Love this bass and Sweetwater!

Grabbed this baby marked down from some blemishes, ive had my eye on this bass for a lot of years. I got sick with cancer and after my surgery i said im grabbing that Lakland as a celebration to me and recently bought a Darkglass 4x10 used from GC. i really love this bass the craftsmanship seems really top notch and i have a nice collection of some great basses this just adds to it. I can get some great sounds from it, the neck feels great to me. Its a fun bass and in white stands out big time i love the shape/style has that 60's/70's weird shape to me like a tiesco del rey type of vibe mixed with other shapes. If you are ever thinking of one of these just grab it! Sweetwater has been very sweet to me, they make it easy and nice they will even follow up which is great. It was delivered through UPS i thought for sure it would be damage especieally since it was packed kind of light but it survived to the hands of a satisfied customer!! Thanks Sweetwatering guys!

Great bass. Cheap Hardware.

The playability on these basses are absolutely great right out of the box. As someone who does a lot of gigging, I want a bass that can stand up to the punishment AND sound great. The input jack on these is made of cheap plastic and broke only 3 days into a tour. I had to have it replaced with a more secure metal one. Then the string tree in front of the two high strings kept stripping out on me and refused to stay in. A little wood glue fixed that easily. Then there are the pick-up covers, the plastic covers are covered in a thin metal foil instead of being metal. The foil very quickly wears away and you're left looking at this ugly plastic. For the price, I was really expecting more out of the quality of the hardware.

The creme de la crem is that the truss rods on these have a very easy to strip cavity for the key. Even with only 4 or 5 adjustments, it is worn in some spots.

The plus side is that this bass genuinely does sound great. The pick-ups deliver a very unique tone that has some great attack when paired with a good amp. The neck is easy to get around and feels good. The body has a shape that works great for fingerstyle or pick playing. It's just a shame that the quality of the hardware on this can't take being anything more than a studio bass. While I have recorded multiple albums with it, I think it will stay a bass for recording only. If you are looking for a workhorse for the road, look elsewhere or plan to upgrade.

Does your favorite bass always leave you wanting more? That's how it was for many of us at Sweetwater, until we got our hands on Lakland basses. We love these instruments because they take the iconic designs we know and kick them up a notch. When Lakland bass models go through our 55-point Evaluation, Sweetwater guitar techs can't help but notice the consistency of their superior craftsmanship - they're among the finest instruments we see. Speaking of consistency, whether you're picking up a classic 44-94 or a more affordable Skyline series model, you'll love the way these basses play, and whether you prefer boutique passive pickups or premium active electronics, look no further than Lakland.
