Iconic Lakland Bass, Amazing Value!

Celebrating the iconic style of the first mass-produced electric bass guitar, the Lakland Skyline 44-51 shares its classic slab body and proprietary hybrid NeoPunch Hum-Canceler pickup with its US-made counterpart — which makes it an incredible value! The 44-51 delivers the powerful tone that, combined with their portability, enabled those early basses to supplant the upright bass and become the industry standard. The Skyline 44-51 serves up vintage sound and visuals in a flawless modern instrument with precision Lakland fretwork and neck refinements that provide the slick playability today’s top bass players demand. Play a modern classic: the Lakland Skyline 44-51 electric bass.

A legendary electric bass — reborn!

Inspired by the 1950s incarnation of the world’s first electric bass, the Lakland Skyline 44-51 lets you hold down the low end in style. That’s largely thanks to Lakland’s amazing custom-wound rendition of the famous split-coil pickup — the NeoPunch Hum-Canceler — which gives your Skyline 44-51 the trademark low-end punch that drives the band and sits perfectly in the mix. And with upgrades such as Lakland’s impressive dual-access bridge, you’ll get the best combination of classic sound and modern stability with your Skyline 44-51 bass.

Skyline Series: top quality at an affordable price

The Lakland Skyline 44-51 electric bass gives you superlative quality for a great low price. That’s because the Skyline 44-51, like all Skyline Series basses, is made overseas and finished in Lakland’s stateside shop. So, regardless of where it was originally made, each Skyline 44-51 passes through the hands of Lakland’s US luthiers long before it finds its way to you. And when you add to that the fact that your Skyline 44-51 comes equipped with the same electronics and hardware as its US-made cousin, you know you’re getting an amazing deal.

With Lakland, you’re in good company

Lakland Basses have earned the respect of discerning players and professional bassists worldwide. Blending vintage comfort with contemporary features, Lakland basses are known for their impressive playability. Since the introduction of the company’s flagship models in the mid 1990s, Lakland basses are famous for exceptional tone, playability and build quality. Through the years, the list of Lakland artists has always impressed, with famous bass luminaries like Chris Squire, Bob Glaub, Chris Hillman, Pino Palladino, Bob Babbitt, Donald “Duck” Dunn — and many, many more. When you take the stage with a Lakland bass, you’re in good company. Sweetwater is delighted to offer you Lakland’s distinguished line of innovative instruments.

If you need BASS.

This is my current gig bass, and it's one of my favorites. The neck is big, but feels great (and I have smaller hands.) The finish is what you'd expect from Lakland; simple and clean. The sound is huge, due probably to the massive body. It's the best "divebomber" bass I've had; slide down the neck on the E string and you will speak with authority. Massive bass. The overall tone is great, mine has no dead spots and it's easy to dial in a great tone.

The cons: First, it's heavy. If you're stuck playing three sets in a cramped area, I'd take a lighter bass for the third set to avoid backache (I use a Lakland 44-64 for this.) Second, the slab body style is uncomfortable if you like to play high on the body. It's better for mid to low slingers. Despite those issues, I really like the 44-51. I can't think of an instrument at this price point that I've liked as much.
Music background: Jazz, Americana

Lakland skyling 44-51

I have had my Lakland Skyline 44-51 for a year now . I did not know anyone who had owned one so I really read up on Lakland .
I play a Ric 4003 and I wanted a bass with a little more bottom end for somethings I do.
It is a little heavy but it has tone to die for . As it is getting more and time on it I am really learning to appreciate
Lakeland good work on this bass.
its a very straight forward bass , no bells and whistles just a great instrument.

Does your favorite bass always leave you wanting more? That's how it was for many of us at Sweetwater, until we got our hands on Lakland basses. We love these instruments because they take the iconic designs we know and kick them up a notch. When Lakland bass models go through our 55-point Evaluation, Sweetwater guitar techs can't help but notice the consistency of their superior craftsmanship - they're among the finest instruments we see. Speaking of consistency, whether you're picking up a classic 44-94 or a more affordable Skyline series model, you'll love the way these basses play, and whether you prefer boutique passive pickups or premium active electronics, look no further than Lakland.
