Great Bass Combo for Gigs of Any Size

Packing four beefy 8" HyDrive speakers driven with lightweight Class D amplification, the Hartke HD508 bass combo amp delivers 500 peak watts of fat, punchy bass tones in a roadworthy 49-pound cabinet. The top-mounted control panel offers a 3-band EQ to shape your sound for any genre, plus Hartke's Shape EQ knob with a variable filter for even more sonic control. Use the XLR direct output to send your bass tone direct to a sound system or recording chain. Complete with a headphone output for private practice sessions, plus an aux input to jam along with backing tracks, the Hartke HD508 bass combo packs big performance into a conveniently sized combo.

Paper and aluminum cone make an impressive sonic combo

So what makes the Hartke HD508 bass combo stand apart from competitors? It all revolves around the HyDrive speaker design. The HyDrive speaker uses paper around the outside for traditional warm, round tones. But the middle is aluminum, adding trademark Hartke zing to your upper mids and highs. The result is a portable bass amp that offers an impressive sonic range that's suitable for practically any style of music.

Compact and gig-worthy

The HD508 bass combo is designed to be a gig-friendly option for touring and traveling musicians. Patented HyDrive paper/aluminum-cone drivers and a 500-watt Class D power amp help to keep weight down for night-after-night portability. The 4 x 8 configuration gives you the fat bottom end you'd expect from larger speakers along with the faster transient response you get from smaller drivers. It's the best of both worlds.

Shape control gives a one-touch boost at 100Hz–900Hz

Bassists at Sweetwater like using the HD508's Shape control in addition to its 3-band EQ to enhance a selected frequency range with the press of a button. This is helpful when you want a bass boost or low-mid bump for a certain section of a song without disrupting your EQ settings. Cycle between 100Hz–900Hz to define the sound you want, then engage any time your tone needs a little sweetening.

Plenty of Punch!

After playing drums for 30 years I decided to switch to bass. I've been playing through a Fender Rumble amp but wanted something with more power. I'm no expert on sound but what I do like about this Hartke amp is the punch and the clarity of the notes. I'm playing Fender Precision and Jazz basses through this amp. Plenty loud enough for gigging where no PA is used. Type of music I'm playing is Rock, Pop, Alternative etc…
Music background: Singing drummer for 30 plus years, Bass player for 2 years and messing with anything that makes noise my entire life.

Great Amp

I did a lot of research and it was not an easy decision picking a new combo amp with all that is out there. The amp is outstanding. I give it five stars because I cannot find a single con to it. You could knock a wall down with this amp turned all the way up. I never push it above 3 out of 10 at home. Have tried both passive and active basses on it and it has a great sound. Easy to put the wheels on. Easy to move. It has a great look which is a bonus.

TIny Beast

I had been eyeballing this combo for quite a while. I'm a sucker for the punch and articulation from smaller speakers like 8's and 10's and I was looking for something smaller than my gig rig to keep in the living room, so I got this amp for practicing around the house and as grab-and-go combo for small gigs. I've used plenty of Hartke gear in the past, so I knew it would be fairly well designed and able to perform. I have to say, I'm blown away with how awesome this little beast is. First off, this thing can get LOUD...and I mean stupid loud for a combo this size. The four 8" speakers are tight, punchy, and will definitely deliver plenty of low end thump with enough highs to cut through the mix and provide plenty of articulation. The EQ works very well and the frequency points are well suited for bass. I could probably get by with the amp on its own, but I enjoy using pedals and other various preamps to get different sounds, and this amp takes them like a champ. I've been using an HX Stomp and other preamp pedals patched into the FX return, and the various amp models and effects really translate well through the Hartke. It feels like it weighs every bit of 50 lbs., but it ships standard with casters, so it rolls right along meaning you'll barely break a sweat loading in/out. The handles are also well places and are heavy duty, so again, moving it around shouldn't be an issue. All in all, if you're on the fence about buying this amp, take the plunge. This tiny beast sounds fantastic and can get the job done in a small/medium venue. Also, BIG thanks to Jon Kremple for helping me with this and every other purchase I've made with Sweetwater for the past 10 years.

Portable Powerhouse

I wanted to stay with Hartke, mainly due to the Hydrive speakers that give me the tone and punch I love and am known for. I was looking for portability in loading back and forth between band trailer and stage. This combo amp delivers all of the above and it is a 500 watt powerhouse. Side and top handles plus dolley wheels makes transport a breeze. The tone shaper is a plus. I don't know if I will ever be on a stage that I will utilize the full (or half) volume and power this combo amp is capable of if I'm not running direct or miked. Value, quality, portability - Hartke!
