A Semi-hollow Bass with Fat Tone

Get that classic '60s bass sound with the Guild Starfire II semi-hollowbody bass guitar. This bass gives you distinctively warm, fat tones that sonically separate it from typical solidbody basses; a sound favored by groups like Jefferson Airplane and the Byrds. Its thinline semi-hollow body gives you much of the organic, resonant sound and rich overtones of a hollow instrument, while a pair of BiSonic pickups deliver the iconic low end you've heard on countless records. Plus, its short scale length makes it extra-comfortable to play. When you need a bass tone that sets you apart in a gig-ready instrument, you can turn to the Guild Starfire II bass with confidence.

Exceptionally playable short-scale neck

The short (30.75") scale length of the Starfire bass makes it easier to navigate the fretboard. It's perfect for beginners and players with smaller hands, but anyone can enjoy this eminently playable semi-hollow bass. The short-scale length lets you comfortably play anywhere on the smooth, beautiful rosewood fingerboard, so just plug the Starfire II bass into your bass amp, and you'll see what we mean.

Thinline semi-hollowbody for comfortable playing and rich tone

Try as you may, you just can't get the same vibrant, overtone-rich sound of a hollowbody bass with a traditional solidbody. So instead of giving you a bulky instrument, Guild gave the Starfire II a thinline body style that provides the woody thump of a hollow instrument plus the easy-playing comfort of a traditional bass. Take it from Sweetwater bassists — the Guild Starfire II semi-hollowbody bass has the tones and playability you want in a bass.

Based on the classic '60s Starfire

Classic rock recordings have no shortage of warm and groovy bass tones served up by hollowbody instruments. Bands like the Byrds and Jefferson Airplane relied on the original Starfire bass for their rhythmic foundation. You can get that vibe too, with the Guild Starfire II semi-hollowbody bass.

Guild Starfire II Semi-hollowbody Bass Guitar Features:

  • Thinline semi-hollowbody based on the '60s Guild Starfire
  • Dual BiSonic pickups serve up rich, vintage-style tone
  • Short-scale neck for comfortable access to all frets and chord positions
  • Exceptional tone and looks from laminated mahogany back, sides, and top
  • 3-piece mahogany/maple/mahogany neck for long-term playability
  • Grover Sta-Tite tuners give you excellent tuning stability

Incredible

This bass blows me away. Every detail is perfect and they all contribute to it being a powerhouse of tone. The vintage style pickups and semi-hollow body give it a powerful thump while still feeling even. The rosewood saddles are beautiful and help keep the sound warmer. The soft u-shaped neck and short scale gives it a comfortable and easy to navigate feeling. I recommend this to anyone but I wish it came setup with flat-wound strings from the factory because that's where it really shines.

Sweet!

The Guild Starfire II was my 6th bass. It is has a sound that is different than my Fender Jazz basses, (and other solid bodies) Tacoma Thunderchief and the Hofner 500/1. 4.5 only because I know there are custom, exotic basses out there. This is now my "going to church" instrument as it has a sound that fits nicely behind the close harmonies of our singers. It's good for jazz, r&r or pop stuff. And everybody turns to look at it. There were no flaws in the finish; it is beautifully crafted and comfortable to play.

Two quibbles: first the very nice case that comes with, leans when sat down. And, although the instrument was nicely set up by Sweetwater, the G string is very close to the edge of the fingerboard. If you bend the note too far, you slide off!

Sweetwater's service was very good...even though I had to wait for the gratification of holding and playing it!
Music background: Dedicated amateur; multiple instruments
