Punchy J-Bass Pickups with Lush Harmonics
The Bartolini b-axis 5-string J-Bass pickup set is designed to pack a punch and inject energy into your tone. Based on Bill Bartolini’s original “Hi-A” design, they highlight the harmonic character of your instrument, coaxing from it the best sound possible. Punchy and articulate, the b-axis J Bass pickups are perfect for expressive players who want every note crisply defined. When it’s time to rock, the high-output Alnico V magnets can churn out the aggression, too. Bassists at Sweetwater are also impressed by how well these pickups reject hum and keep their tone clean onstage and in the studio. And, since the b-axis J Bass pickups are fully enclosed, they’ll stay free of sweat and grime for years of reliable performance.
Note: Mounting hardware for installation is not included. Please contact your Sweetwater Sales Engineer with any questions.
Bartolini’s Original “Hi-A” design
Bill Bartolini’s initial pickup designs — dubbed “Hi-A” — were aimed at bringing the rich and complex tonal characteristics of acoustic instruments to electric basses and guitars. To accomplish this, Bartolini developed a pickup system with a highly asymmetric magnetic field similar to the natural asymmetric response of acoustic instruments inherent to their bridge structures. Why is asymmetric response important? Because it puts more emphasis on the attack of a note, accentuating its harmonic content, which lies at the center of an instrument’s tone. For players, that means having an instrument that will sound instantly more musical, respond with enhanced precision, and allow for a higher level of expressiveness.
