Value-packed Small-diaphragm Condenser Mic

The sE Electronics sE7 is a high-quality small-diaphragm, back-electret condenser microphone designed for a broad range of studio and live sound applications. With its optimized acoustic design, discrete Class A circuitry, versatile attenuation and highpass switches, and a transformerless output, the sE7 delivers clear, natural sound at all frequencies on any source. The low end is punchy and the high end is sweet and silky smooth. The sE7's discrete Class A signal path doesn't employ ICs or transformers, and this is key to the mic's remarkably natural performance in capturing acoustic instruments such as guitar, piano, strings, woodwinds, and percussion.

Impressive quality and value

sE didn't just design a great-sounding mic — they also included features not even found on small-diaphragm mics costing much more! A 6dB/octave 80Hz highpass filter lets you roll off unwanted mud and rumble, while the 20dB pre-attenuation pad increases the mic's impressive usefulness by letting you mic more raucous sources, like toms, snares, and electric guitar. The sE7's class-leading SPL handling capability and dynamic range ensure that you will capture every nuance of these sources without fear of overload. The high-quality build is typical sE and includes a gold-plated XLR connector for optimal signal integrity over many years of daily use in your studio. The sE7 is such an incredible value, we'd advise you to go for a stereo pair — perfect for drum overheads!

just ran it though its paces

Just got the SE7 in the mail today. I immediately plugged it in and flipped switches and did all of the new toy stuff. I used the hi-pass roll off and 20db pad and gave it a whirl for vocals. Yes, I'm sure that's not the intended purpose of the mic but it did well with the windscreen on. I put the switch back to 0db and turned off the hi-pass switch and it was very clear on my acoustic guitar. The sound was natural and uncolored as it should be. I can't find anything I don't like about it. It seems like a stout little mic. The clip seems very sturdy as well.
To the guy at Sweetwater that called (I don't remember your name) you sir are awesome! My wife was being funny and requested Laffy Taffy in our candy bag. He called and told me they could make sure we got all Laffy Taffy. I told him she was trying to be funny. His attention to the stupid details impressed me. And THIS is why I keep buying gear from Sweetwater. Thank you for your stellar customer service!!

sE Electronics sE7 Small-diaphragm Condenser Microphone

Jacob has men instrumental (no pun intended) with all of my purchases.
It's a great mike, and I'm very happy with it.
Thanks again Jacob.

Great for remote online meetings

Bought the se7 a couple years ago to record acoustic guitar and ended up using it for Workplace and Zoom online meetings. It's terrific: on calls my voice is very clear and loud. If you position it closer to your mouth, you can also take advantage of the cardioid pattern to cut out clicking keystrokes and echoes from untreated walls. Recently paired it with a Shure MVX2U and a mini tripod with 5/8" thread for a tiny setup that fits conveniently on my desk.

A great performer and a fantastic value!

This is a followup to an earlier review...

I've had an sE7 for going on a year, and just ordered a second one to make a pair for multi-mic/X-Y setups, which I do often on my various acoustic guitars. I'd BEEN using a Sennheiser e865 (handheld condenser vocal mic) as the second mic...now, that's a fine microphone, but it was NOT suited for recording an acoustic git'r. It recorded accurately, but "colored" the sound of my guitars with it's own 'character'.

Meanwhile - the sE7 (which itself replaced entry-level MXL 991's) just sounds fantastic - clear as a bell, beautiful tone, minimal/no need for EQ'ing/tweaking, very sensitive, but quiet.

Not that it has anything to do with THIS review...but I also replaced my long-serving MXL990 vocal condenser with the sE X1 S LDC for vox...and it also just SMOKES anything I've owned in this price range.
Looking forward to having a pair of these to expand my git'r recording capabilities!

And on the side: Kudos to my S/W guy Gage M for advising these mic's; I'd been considering quite a few in both purchases, and he made me aware of these for comparison. I'm very happy he did - these are GREAT mic's!

sE Electronics sE7 Small-diaphragm Condenser Microphones sound very nice.

sE Electronics sE7 Small-diaphragm Condenser Microphone were recommended by my SW sales engineer Aaron Rom because the AKG model I initially ordered was unavailable. I'd not heard of this brand before, but the advice was solid.
I use a pair to record acoustic guitar and these sound very nice. Good detail, sweet sound.
