The master of all mic stands!

This is what good engineering is all about! This mic stand is simply a great design! Over the past several years, I've gone through mic stand after mic stand searching for one that won't break. Invariably, they all do. One look at how this mic stand is designed tells me simply - IT WON'T BREAK!

It's built like a tank and no matter what, stays on its feet.

I primarily use this for on-location recording of orchestras, choruses, chamber music, etc. The great thing is the size of the footprint! I don't have to block 4 seats with a giant tripod converted lightstand anymore! And, even fully extended, it's still stable. Just to prove this, I had a nice pair of Schoeps 221Bs sitting on top the stand - fully extended at over 14'. Demonstrating to the conductor of the ensemble how sturdy it was, I began whaling away on the stand - kicking it, hitting it...the mics at the top barely wavered. I wouldn't even THINK of doing that with $8K worth of mics on top of any other of my stands!

Using it in the studio is awesome too! Even big, heavy mics sit on this with ease. With the boom fully extended, I easily mounted an AEA R88 without any hint of instability! I even mounted a Decca tree configuration and extended it as far and high as possible - stable! (Though, for my own sanity, I'd still put a sandbag at the base of the stand).

You can also configure this stand to have the counterweight at the bottom of the base section giving the low center of gravity even more help if needed.

Also, the extra long mic mounting post and large lock nut make putting even difficult mics and mounts on top of this stand easy.

It may seem like $450 is a lot for a mic stand...the real question is - how can you afford NOT to get this stand?!

amazing

This thing is built like a tank!!! Even with the boom fully extended, there is not a chance this thing will tip. I would definitely recommend Latch Lake stands to anyone using expensive mics

heavy duty

a serious mic stand! as some of the other people mentioned earlier, it takes quite a bit to get this stand to tip. the bases are solid and very heavy and along with the counter weight at the end of the boom, there are very few mics that will cause a stand like this to get tipsy. however, if you're using one of these with a tube mic in combination with something like an sE electronics reflexion filter, the cams may have a hard time holding the mic in place for long periods of time. i found that i have to readjust them every so often, or i'll hear them make a creak sound as they "slip" from their previous location... eventually sagging under the weight. the stand holds up, but the weight of the mic and filter out at the end is maybe a bit more weight than the cam can handle. otherwise, this stand is perfect. strengthen your finger and wrist muscles to tighten down on those knobs and loosen the cams.
