A Pro-level Compensated Euphonium for Discerning Players

The Yamaha YEP-642SII Neo is a professional euphonium that’s equally at home in solo or ensemble settings, and it blends seamlessly with baritone and tenor horns. This dual-bore euphonium exhibits an energetic response with robust projection, and its incredible valve action takes comfort and playability to a whole new level. The YEP-642SII includes four monel alloy pistons, in a 3+1 configuration, with a compensating tuning system that ensures accurate tuning throughout the instrument's range — especially on those difficult low notes. Hand-lapped valves and slides supply a perfect fit and seal, exhibiting effortless air flow, smooth action, and amazing response. What’s more, this horn’s silver-plated brass body lends an ear-grabbing brilliance to every note you play. The Yamaha YEP-642SII is tailor-made for players with discerning tastes. If this describes you, the YEP-642SII may just well be the last euphonium you’ll ever need to buy.

Tailor-made for discriminating players

Serious players searching for a pro-level euphonium with uncanny power and sustain, along with outstanding playing resistance and rock-solid intonation will find much to appreciate in the YEP-642SII. It boasts a 0.591-inch to 0.661-inch, dual-bore design, which fortifies the horn’s lower register with extra responsiveness and openness. The YEP-642SII’s 11.8-inch, 2-piece yellow brass bell exhibits a lively sound with excellent projection, and its large shank mouthpiece receiver ensures a broad tone and free-blowing feel. What’s more, its hand-lapped valves and slides ensure an absolute fit and seal, while monel alloy pistons offer outstanding resistance to corrosion, along with smooth, quick, responsive playability. Brass enthusiasts here at Sweetwater concur that the YEP-642SII’s assertive tone and steadfast intonation are at the top of its class.

Flexible compensating tuning system

Like most lower brass instruments, euphoniums tend to play slightly sharp in their lower registers. The Yamaha YEP-642SII Neo counterbalances this by using a second set of tubing for each valve that opens when its fourth valve is engaged. This extra tubing permits you to play low notes with proper intonation without affecting the tuning of mid and upper registers. You also get the benefit of being able to use midrange fingerings to play low notes by engaging the fourth valve. This supplies a sizable advantage over non-compensating instruments, which compel you to finger low notes a half step lower to compensate for the sharper pitch from low Eb and downwards. The YEP-642SII’s compensating tuning system arms you with a fully chromatic low range — complete with a low B — with four valves.

Yamaha Neo Series brass and woodwinds

Designed with input from renowned euphonium teacher Bill Millar and acclaimed soloist Steven Walsh, Yamaha’s Neo Series instruments are crafted for players who desire maximum power, projection, and tonal color. To create these horns, Yamaha began with a clean slate. They crafted numerous prototypes, redesigning each component until they attained what they describe as “the ideal brass band sound.” Neo Series instruments can tackle solo or ensemble applications with equal aplomb, while permitting every subtle nuanced dynamic and tonal inflection to shine through. If you’re in search of a next-level, professional euphonium, Yamaha’s Neo Series is definitely worth your consideration.
