This review will be done in two parts.

We'll start with the main 2-tier stand. It's solid. Very solid. Just make sure the pin is locked in fully before putting any weight on it. The base tier is deep enough to support a large 88-note keyboard (Montage-8, or an older Korg T1 or 01/W Pro-X.) While the 2nd tier is solid, and level, it's way too high--too much space between the two keyboards. It'd be nice if it were height-adjustable like the OnStage KS7292.

Now, for the Universal 2nd-Tier. This is pretty much a copy of the one by OnStage, with one key difference. There is no crossbar between the two supports. I feel like this is a bit of a shortcoming on Gator's part, as even though it's a friction fit, the crossbar would help keep this thing more stable.

With this package, you get the 2-tier X-stand, plus the Universal 2nd Tier. Pop the caps off of the 2nd tier of the main stand, and you can insert the two supports for a 3-tier stand. However, the 2nd tier becomes pretty much useless as the supports are far too short for most keyboards, unless you're planning on putting a very shallow keyboard there, such as some controllers, or a DeepMind 12. This short depth also puts the "3rd" tier go right over top of the 2nd, which puts the 3rd keyboard far too close and right over top the 2nd keyboard.

I'll probably be putting this setup in the studio and leaving it set up. If I was going to go for another triple stand, I'd probably get the OnStage 2-tier Z-stand, and as much as I don't like their Universal 2nd Tier, add that on the back of the 2nd tier of the Z-stand.
