Impressive Tone and Smooth Playability Make this Hollowbody Different From the Rest

The Guild X-350 Stratford is a vintage-style re-creation of one of Guild’s most popular hollowbody designs. In the 1950s, the Stratford was one of Guild’s most luxurious models. Today’s version captures the pomp and circumstance of the original, boasting impressive features. The body is made from maple and has an arched spruce top for added power and articulation. The top is loaded with three dog-ear P-90s that are capable of delivering a wide variety of tones, depending on how you manipulate the controls. You’ll fall in love with mahogany neck’s Soft U profile and easy playing ebony fingerboard. Players of all kinds will appreciate the Guild X-350 Stratford’s old-school charm and powerful tone.

A trio of P-90s give this axe its voice

Guild aficionados know that the original Guild hollowbodies did not have P-90s: they actually had Franz pickups that were made by hand in Queens and modeled after the original P-90 design. This guitar is loaded with three Franz P-90 pickups that create all of the vintage goodness you’d expect from a Guild. Run them wide open, and these single-coils deliver fat, biting tones. Roll back the volume, and they clean up to produce an open and chiming tone that’s ideal for jazz. To control the sound, you get a 3-way pickup selector switch to toggle the bridge and neck pickups. A dedicated volume knob blends the middle pickup in and out of any configuration. This guitar can cover significant sonic ground — all you need to do is take the time to experiment with it.

Silky-smooth playability

Guitar players at Sweetwater know that playability is one of the things that sets a guitar apart from the competition. And if you’re a fan of vintage-style necks, the Guild X-350 Stratford is one of those guitars. Its mahogany neck is carved into a vintage Soft U profile that sits firmly in your hand. The ebony fingerboard feels as smooth as glass under your fingers, and the narrow jumbo frets accommodate all playing styles. And to top it all off, the x-350 is equipped with a Guild vibrato tailpiece for expressive performance capabilities.

Descended from the hollowbodies of old

The X-350 Stratford was originally introduced in the ’50s as one of the finest instruments in the Guild catalog. It boasted a fully hollow construction and features like an arched spruce top, trio of P-90 pickups, and a vibrato tailpiece. Seven decades later, the X-350 Stratford once again appears in the Guild catalog. It holds true to the original design and features lavish details such as an ebony fingerboard with mother-of-pearl position markers. You also get a fully bound body with binding through the F-holes and up to the headstock. If you’re in the market for a vintage-style guitar, the Guild X-350 Stratford is the guitar for you.

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Old school all the way

Adam Cesarz ext 1700 is my guy at Sweetwater. No worries. Ever.

Except for the perfectly done red finish this X350 harkens back to '60's era traditional full thick hollow body arch top Guild guitars.
Beautifully done binding work. The F-holes even "look" bound (actually done like PRS edge scrape "binding"). At this price point it's a great looking and playing guitar.
The neck feels like a rounded Les Paul "C" not too skinny.
The ebony fretboard is smooth and the frets are just right.

The pickups all sound great in every configuration. The middle pu has its own volume pot and can be blended in anytime desired.
The neck and bridge pickups are not "coupled" in the wiring, so can be zero'd without silencing the other pickups.

The master tone control (located where the bridge pu tone pot usually is) is extremely on/off notchy near the lower numbers. There isn't any usable sweep.

That said, there are some nice tones available. By mixing in the middle pickup, some Strat-like "goinky" tones can be subtly applied. Twang!
I don't generally apply the Bigsby tailpiece much, but it's there if I get a notion.

Since I like getting so-called "jazz" tones occasionally, I'd prefer a Guild harp style tailpiece and a wooden bridge upper saddle array, but those are available on another Guild model. I can get close on this, despite the tone pot.
After I change the tone pot to a logarithmic audio taper pot I'm sure I'll be able to nail the tone I want. The guitar is very versatile, for the type.

All in all I'm very happy with the quality feel and sounds. QC is perfect.
Music background: Playing all styles since 1962 Semi-pro

Guild X-350

This is an excellent guitar. The 3 pickups make it possible to create almost any tone I want. The neck is extremely comfortable and easy to play.
Music background: Still learning after 50 years
