Reviews

Unique sound!
Bought just for something additional and unique and it certainly is that. Has a darker, "Oriental", sound than I expected. Unique combination of attack, sustain, and fade. I'm really growing to like this thing a lot!
Music background: Drummer for 50 + years.
Exactly what it looks like
It's a pentagonal splash cymbal, and it sounds exactly like you expect. Pretty bright and super trashy played with a stick, and if you play it by hand or with mallets it sounds kinda like a gong.
Sounds great as an accent, especially for the price.
Mine had some funky yellow splotches on the underside but sounds great and doesn't bother me a bit.
Great cymbal for Metal
Very affordable little "crash" cymbal but its really trashy, thin, sounds gong-like because of its pentagon shape(which is cool and unique) I like it
Unique!
I've been using cymbals that are right between splash and crash lately, because they don't overwhelm, but still make a statement. This one has a distinct Chinese accent which often fits nicely and contrasts my 10" K Zildian. And it's pentagonal!
Music background: Rock, Jazz, Orchestra, etc... for more than 50 years.
Arrived Defective - Should have discounted - but sounds good!
In the pink-tinged photos you can clearly see a manufacturing error in the bell hole, looks like whatever happened during the drilling caused a freckle in the bell hole and a slight depression in the bell where the freckle is. For a second I thought that I received a used or open box cymbal, but that's unlikely given how recently these were released, I guess it just got past QC. Those photos were taken the day of arrival after 1 practice session.

The clear photos were taken after one practice session with the drummer in my band. Keyholing is already beginning after the 2nd session of use, likely due to the drilling error, since it's keyholing where the freckle used to be/was already weakened.

Both sessions felts/cympads were in use and my drummer has a Jazz degree and has nicer cymbals than I, so I doubt it was misuse on his part. Both photo couplets were taken within a couple days of each other. This is actually the 2nd Wuhan product I've received with a defective bell hole. My Wuhan 18" Dark Conical China came with a slightly uncentered bell hole, but I bought it open box so I just accepted that since it sounds amazing and isn't showing any keyholing despite the uncentered hole (felts be putting in work). I really love Wuhan cymbals for their general affordability and affordability for the experimental and weird, but they really need to have a talk with their machinist. I'm fine with an occasional defect, but it's the consistency of defects that gets to me. The side of the Pentagon with the "Linear" logo also has a slightly longer radius from bell hole center to the point(s) by about a 1/4" or a half-centimeter than the other sides, which may or may not have been intentional in its design, I'm not sure, but it does NOT help the keyholing situation one bit, since one side is heavier it naturally leans down on that side exaggerating its displacement when hit and causing more unintended friction on one (already defective) spot of the bell hole, felts can only do so much, even when the cymbal is oriented totally flat.

As for its sound, I couldn't recommend it more for the price. As other reviews have stated, there is a "gonginess" to its sound. I noticed that right off the bat by striking it with the side of my thumb. It sounds surprisingly deep and low when you excite it like that, almost sounds bigger than it is. When played with a drumstick it does get that brighter attack, but also you can hear a much more metallic quality almost comparable to the unique metallic sound you get from a spiral stack. I hear the "white-noise" quality mentioned in the description best when it's played in the context of other cymbals and drums. The low-end "gonginess" is masked in the context of play and it becomes a very desirable accent IMO.

I think the sound potential of this cymbal puts it into a 3/5 range, but the errors in manufacturing, at least in the one I received, keep it from getting a 4 or 5. I know, I know, I can't expect a lot from a cymbal under $, but with just a little more attention to quality, these could be a hit. I hope Wuhan gets better QC or another company takes up this design and makes better quality pentagonal (or other uncommonly shaped) cymbals, I'd shell out for the sound.
