Another Modern Classic Mic From Warm

Their acclaimed compressors and preamps have famously upset the pro audio price/performance ratio. When Warm Audio turned their attention to microphones, they set high targets: the most iconic large-diaphragm FET condenser mics in history. Behold the WA-14. It's based on a studio classic. Flash back to any top recording facility in the late 1970s. You'll see its venerable progenitor everywhere. On pianos, acoustic guitars, overheads, vocals, brass, percussion — you name it. Sweetwater engineers who have worked with this perennial studio favorite know that the all-brass, edge-terminated CK12 dual-backplate/dual-membrane capsule is a key ingredient in this mic's legendary sound. Warm Audio closely followed this timeless design when they engineered their own LK-12-B-60V Lens Kondensator for the WA-14. Stellar performance, top-shelf parts, and amazing value: that's the Warm formula — and the WA-14 nails it again.

What can the WA-14 do for you?

Every studio needs at least one pair of high-quality large-diaphragm condenser mics, and the Warm Audio WA-14 is designed after a legendary one. You can use the WA-14 on anything — with world-class results. It makes vocals shimmer. It makes pianos sit gorgeous in the track. It's a must-have for acoustic guitars. It's also an ideal choice for vibraphone, marimba, strings, and woodwinds. Its three polar patterns — cardioid, omni, and figure-8 — further increase the WA-14's impressive versatility, letting you experiment with stereo capture techniques such as Spaced Pair (A/B), X-Y (including Blumlein), ORTF array, and Mid-Side (MS). With this mic, you can do no wrong.

Quality components make the Warm difference

Warm Audio doesn't cut corners on components, but they do order parts and build in quantity, which keeps costs down and delivers amazing value. The WA-14 is built with premium components such as the LK-12-B-60V Lens Kondensator (a high-quality reproduction of the coveted vintage CK12 capsule) and a genuine USA-made Cinemag output transformer. It features an all-discrete signal path with tantalum, polystyrene, and WIMA capacitors. Premium parts and meticulous design deliver a superior-sounding microphone — one that doesn't cost a fortune. Give the WA-14 an audition in your studio: you will hear what we're talking about.

Fantastic mic!

They sound great on everything that I have put them on - overheads, guitar cabs, acoustic guitar, and vocals. I have always loved the AKG C414, and these are a fantastic replica. To hear samples, and hear my full thoughts, check out my video review attached.

Sounds Great, but...

I do wish Warm Audio would put the same level of resources into Production and Quality Control as they do Research and Development. I have purchased two Warm Microphones (the 14 & 47) and both sound terrific on a variety of sources. But as you can see in the attached image, the installation of the grill on the 14 is sloppy. And the 3-way switch shown in the image is at center setting, but not aligned with the labels. I feel like I paid full price for a B-Stock item.

Just what I needed!

I needed a jack-of-all-trades type of microphone and this fit the bill! I've used it on everything from vocals, guitar, bass, and drums. No disappointment whatsoever! Thanks, Warm Audio and Sweetwater!

Desert Island Mic!!

I owned some great condenser microphones before the WA Dash 14, but ever since I bought this mic, it has become my go-to mic for a variety of sources!

I bought two of them initially, thinking that they would be great for drum overheads (which they are, indeed!), but a friend recommended trying them on vocals. I tried it, and let me tell you, if you haven't tried it on vocals, you are missing out! The top end is present, but not harsh, the midrange is full and clear, the lower mids are tight and clean, and the bottom end was not overly emphasized.

So far, it has not met a sound source that it didn't flatter!

Microphones sound great and are a perfectly matched pair after return from factory.

One of the Original pair of WA 14 Warm Audio microphones I purchased was defective and they were very noticeably unmatched and would distort after an hour of recording. Sweetwater assisted me in returning to Warm Audio and the replacement microphones are now working as expected and seem to be matched perfectly when used for drum overheads. I recommend the WA 14 microphones along with the WA 87 microphones and find them to be on par with my Neumann, AKG and other professional microphones in my arsenal.

What Do Our In-house Gear Experts Think?

Ryan Gregory

As a multi-instrumentalist and recording engineer, I've had the chance to use many of the usual suspect microphones. I recently purchased a WA-14 as it is based around the brass CK12-style capsule that everyone loves. I was very surprised with how easily it hangs with all my more expensive mics. It is very pleasing to use. I haven't put it back in the box in weeks! If you are looking for a workhorse mic good for a lot of different applications, this might be the one. And the price is unbelievable for what it is.
