The Mixer You Always Wanted for Your Volca Modules

Fans of Korg's Volca modules have been asking for a Volca mixer for years, and the Korg Volca Mix packs as much innovation as the modules do. It powers up to three Volcas, has an external effects send, and offers impressive performance features. Each of the three channels (two mono and one stereo) offer a low-/high-cut filter, send control, a mute button, and a channel fader. And with the ability to sync to your other Volca modules to control tempo, the Korg Volca Mix offers a ton of creative performance potential.

Stereo widening and analog compression prime your sound for performance

The Korg Volca Mix analog mixer will help your Volcas sound better than ever. Use the Width control to create an expansive stereo field, while using the Dynamics control to add just the right amount of compression to make things pop, or even create sidechain effects.

External effects send and Aux input

Want to use your Kaoss Pad or other effects processor with your Volcas? Of course you do, and the Volca Mix makes it easy to integrate external effects. Each channel has an effects send control, and the Aux input allows you to return the effects to your mix. Of course, you could also use the Aux in for another synth, or a second Volca Mix to mix more Volca modules.

Power and cables included

At Sweetwater, we appreciate the little things, like getting all the cables you need with a new piece of gear. The Korg Volca Mix comes with an AC adapter for wall power, DC power cables for up to three Volcas, and audio cables. Just connect your own headphones or amp system, or use the built-in speakers, and you're ready to play.

Korg Volca Mix Analog Mixer Features:

  • Performance mixer for Korg Volca series synth modules
  • Sync output for master control over your modules' tempo and playback
  • 2 mono inputs and 1 stereo input
  • 3 fader channels with low-/high-cut filter, send control, mute button, and fader
  • Send output for connecting external effects processors
  • Aux input for effects return, connecting another Volca Mix, or another synth module
  • Built-in stereo widening and compression for full-sounding performances
  • Built-in speakers with on/off switch
  • Includes AC adapter, DC power cables for Volca modules, and audio cables
What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!

VOLCA MIX
Have not used every feature yet,but so far everything is great.
Not sorry that I bought it.
GREAT PIECE OF EQUIPMENT!

Bringing the Korg family together...
After much research, some mixer trial and error, and a tangle of more cords than necessary, I gave in and purchased the Volca Mix. I was apprehensive because a lot of the gear community were disappointed in the specs for this thing, but I have three Volcas and a Monologue and this had the appropriate inputs/out for my current set up.

After a quick and intuitive set up, I was immediately wowed by the integration of all of my Korgs and the little bonuses that make this unique. I LOVE the send FX. The stereo widener is exceptional in that it brings the often monotone sound from my Keys and Beats to life. Adding the Monologue to the AUX in (Send Out goes to Sync In on the Monologue, Audio out goes to Aux In on the Mix) adds a whole new voice to the Mix and the dynamics/speed compression is subtle but effective in taming some low end from Beats and Monologue. The sound is solid (not so much from the speaker, but as much as I agree with other that the space could have been used for other options, it's cool to have on the go), the Low/Hi Cut adds additional sonic variations, the tempo syncs across all four of my synths, and the Play option triggers all Volcas to play at the same time (HELPFUL!).

Worth the price alone is the fact that this powers my three Volcas (trying to find the correct power supply that wasn't the expensive Korg version was endless frustration and $) and comes with an adapter of its own plus power cords and sync cables.

This really is the perfect solution and eventually when I do get a mixer to bring in my future gear, this will remain the hub of my Korg universe. Ignore the naysayers, if you love your Volcas this is a no brainer and it feels worth every penny.

A shout out to Ken Davis at Sweetwater who's always Johnny On The Spot with help and answers. Good stuff.

Korg Volca Mix
I initially did not think the Volca Mix was a very good idea and didn"t want one. I got one to try it and instantly bought 2 more. It can really add to cool variations to your other Volcas. The stereo widener really helps the mono Volcas sound better. Playing the mutes at different timings can be really musical and switch up your base riff or whatever. The dinamics set really high squashes the sound into a pumping mashup of the original sound and you can set the speed of the pumping. Worst part is the knobs for dinamics and speed are too close to the output/fix loop in/outs and it"s hard to tweek.

A Great Little Compliment to the KORG Volca Family
I purchased two KORG Volca Mix 'analogue mixers' for my full compliment of KORG Volca instruments (Bass, Beats, FM, Keys, Kick, and Sample). Within a few minutes I was able plug in and synchronize the playback of six Volca instruments with a minikaosspad 2. I extended the 'Sync' chain to a KORG SQ1 and MS-20 mini with the MS-20 mini's audio into the second Volca Mix's 'Aux In'... and there was much rejoicing.

The Volca Mix handles the power requirements for one to three Volcas which eliminates the need for batteries and additional power supplies. The necessary cables are included.

A stereo (for Volca FM or Volca Sample) and two mono (Volca Bass, Volca Beats, Volca Keys, or Volca audio channels are available with their own volume faders, mutes, 'Send' knobs for external singanl processing, and low-cut / hi-cut filter knobs in lieu of a parametric EQ. Again, the necessary cables are included.

For synchronization, the tempo is set on the Volca mix and the other Volcas are chained from the Mix's 'Sync Out'. The Volca Mix provides a synchronized start for Volca playback rather than merely sending the 'Sync' clock/step pulse. Note that there is neither a 'Sync In' nor a MIDI port on the Volca mix. Thus, the Volca Mix only provides the master clock for an analog pulses. In the two Volca Mix set-up, simply chain all other Volcas to one Volca mix. For synchronization to other equipment like a DAW, sync the other Volcas direct to that gear. The tempo on the Volca mix does not appear to affect the Volca Mix's 'Master Chain' effects.

The 'Master Chain' provides global effects that consist of a stereo expander and a compressor. Some folk lament the lack of stereo panning. The stereo expander does a pretty good job of creating panoramic 'space' via the 'Width'. The compressor is decent. Between the 'Dynamics' and 'Speed' knobs it was easy to find a sweet spot. I really had the Volca Kick rocking the house in a mix with a Volca Keys and Sample.

I used a minikaosspad 2 for external effects with the signal from the 'Send Out' and returning through the 'Aux In'. It worked well, but it didn't really get wet enough for my tastes.

Otherwise, the on-board speakers are crappy, but I didn't expect them to be much. I did experience some hiss using the RCA line outs to out-board gear and speakers.

Overall, the Volca Mix is a great way to tie other Volcas together with synchronization and a little audio processing.

Too Noisy
The form and functionality of the volca mix are great. I have volcas FM, Kick, and Bass. I put those is a 2x2 arrangement and BOOM, its like one instrument with a zillion knobs and a single analog audio output. The problem is that the thing is too darn noisy. I get tons of hiss out of my Volca mix even when all the channel faders are all the way down and yet more hiss when they are up, even when there is no source connected to the channel inputs. I really wish the Volca mix wasn't so noisy because the features and interface are actually pretty nice.
