works great as a DI preamp and a practice amp

I specifically shopped for a DI bass preamp that could double as a practice amp, i.e., one which had Aux In so I could play along with songs and a Headphone out connection. As a DI preamp, it worked great out of the box. I like the distortion sound from this pedal and the controls and switches provide a nice variety of sounds. Initially, I was disappointed in it as a practice amp because the headphone output was very low. Even with the Master level set to max and over the ear headphones, I'd have to be in a quiet room to be able to hear it well. However, it turned out that was on me. Darkglass has an app which you can use to upload different cab sounds to the preamp (which I wasn't particularly interested in), but what I missed at first was that the same app can be used to set the overall headphone level. I set it to max with that app and then the headphone volume was much better.

Excellent Bass Preamp

The Vintage Ultra has a great flexibility for such a small pedal. Great tones are easily found given the selectable low & high mid frequencies. I only wish the bass was also selectable (60hz, 80hz , & 100hz).
The overdrive has a very usable range enhanced by both the Level & Blend knobs.
The preamp exudes quality and the above mentioned flexibility.
Indispensable pre for great bass tones. Having and additional EQ for high & low pass and some boost at 60hz will increase the inherent excellent tones provided by the Vintage Ultra.

Great pedal!

As a somewhat long-in-the-tooth bassist since 1974, I've always had a soft spot for the warm overdriven amp sounds of my youth and let me tell you, this pedal really delivers. I favor the lower gain side of what the Vintage Ultra has to offer and the headphone, aux-in and cab sim just round out a great pedal. Any sound you want is in here … and the band really like the sound too. Special shoutout to Cameron Green, my sales engineer who reached out to me to thank me for the purchase and make sure all was well.

Vintage Ultra v2

This box ROCKS - easily able to go from super clean and warm to great sounding distortion. I got the aux in model so I play along with my iPod into headphones. One thing I've always hated was the headphones sounding vastly different than the amp - not on the v2. I suggest playing around with the low-mid and high-mid switches and try cutting and boosting different frequencies - this is where the magic happens for clean tones.

Finally, tone achieved!

Short and to the point - the Ultra V2 has allowed me to find the tone I've been looking for! It's very versatile and I'm just beginning the learn all the various ways I can alter my sound via the multiple switches and knobs. I love this box!
