The Vertigo VSC-2 plug-in offers two ways to compress your audio. The ratio dial comes with the usual suspects, 2:1, 4:1, 8:1, and 10:1. Together with the variable attack and release parameters, these four ratios give you plenty of flexibility right out of the box. With the Ratio knob set at Soft, the plug-in takes baby steps from a 1:1 ratio and smoothly increases up to 8:1 as needed. And finally, Brick mode sees the Vertigo VSC-2 transform into an analog-style limiter for a super tight feel. No matter how aggressively you use it, the VSC-2 plug-in comes with a makeup gain knob for restoring volume lost due to compression.
Multimode operation
The original Vertigo VSC-2 hardware units were designed as stereo bus compressors with a complete set of controls per channel. But with the plug-in version, you can choose to run in stereo or dual mono to process multiple tracks simultaneously — a useful feature for mixing. There are also selectable sidechain filters to allow the midrange through without being squashed. This is ideal for mastering bass-heavy music and other sources with a lot of low-end information.
