Dexibell VIVO S1 - Sleek 68-key Stage Piano

The Dexibell VIVO S1 digital stage piano is powered by Dexibell's T2L (True to Life) hybrid sampling/modeling sound engine to deliver the realistic responsiveness of a real acoustic piano with virtually unlimited polyphony. T2L technology enhances the timbral accuracy and responsiveness relative to the dynamic articulation of the keyboardist. Crafted in Italy to exacting standards, the Dexibell VIVO S1 also serves as a compact keyboard controller with 4 MIDI zones and 3 pedal inputs. From its highly playable 68-note light-weighted keybed to the incredible sound that emanates from its next-generation sound engine, keyboardists at Sweetwater are quite jazzed about the Dexibell VIVO S1. We think you will be, too!

Deep interaction with the instrument

While the audio quality is unquestionably stunning, perhaps even more amazing is the interaction the pianist feels with the Dexibell VIVO S1. Every minute nuance of playing technique is channeled from your fingers through the light-weighted keybed to the Dexibell VIVO S1’s sound engine. Dexibell's state-of-the-art CORTEX-Quadcore T2L technology then goes to work, layering precise, articulate resonances to capture every subtlety of your interaction with the keys. It's all borne out by the sound you hear — creative feedback that inspires the next notes you play. After all: you play better when you sound great!

320 oscillators, unlimited polyphony

The beating heart of the Dexibell VIVO S1 is a powerful quad-core CPU capable of processing 320 digital oscillators. This massive oscillator arsenal provides for virtually unlimited polyphony and allows for the simulation of all elements of the sound, including the mechanical noises characteristic of acoustic grand pianos. Dexibell uses higher definition, 24-bit/48kHz (32-bit floating DSP and internal processing) as a sound wave format with 256 times more resolution than 16-bit audio, greatly improving both the Dexibell VIVO S1’s frequency response and dynamic range.

High-resolution T2L sound engine

In the T2L sound engine that drives the Dexibell VIVO S1, the recorded waveform length of each individual note is between three and 15 times longer than the typical digital piano. For example, a low note on the Dexibell VIVO S1 has an original waveform length of 15 seconds, whereas most current models average between one and 5 seconds. The result? Thrillingly vibrant and realistic harmonics throughout the evolution of each sustained note.

Dexibell: from Italy, with passion

After 25 years of successful innovation with leading brands worldwide, the Dexibell team came together to establish, in their words, "a dynamic and motivated workshop with an Italian business ethos." Their driving force is passion. A passion for music. And design. From high fashion to high-performance automobiles to high-end cuisine, Italy leads the world. And there is an undeniable passion about Italian design. Springing from this creative and cultural milieu, Dexibell digital organs and pianos seamlessly blend tradition and modern technology to create products such as the VIVO, in which the sweet sound of Chopin’s favorite 1850s piano is voiced by the company's cutting-edge CORTEX-Quadcore T2L sound engine. Designed, engineered, and manufactured in Italy, Dexibell instruments sound and look incredible onstage and in the studio and are precision-built to give you many years of high performance.

Amazing!!!

Sold my Nord Electro 5 after hearing this. The attention to detail in each patch is amazing.

This thing is amazing.

First, the instrument is extremely well built and sounds great. The keyboard itself is perfect for me- very responsive and great action. And it's made in Italy, not China. How cool is that?
The onboard sounds are quite good, and you can download more sounds from Dexibell, including several grand pianos. The drawbar organ style sounds are also very good, and so is the rotating speaker sim.

So it's a great stage piano, but here's where it just fit my needs perfectly:

I decided on the Vivo S1 because I needed a keyboard for occasional live use, but I needed to load my own sounds in, and this does that perfectly. For ten years I've had to hook up a controller keyboard, a computer, and an audio interface to get the sounds I needed live. Now I can import Soundfonts (translated from software instruments) into the Vivo and call them up instantly. You can actually completely replace the internal sounds if you wanted. What really surprised me is the sound quality; the imported sounds actually sound better on the Viva than they do on the software through my audio interface! It can play your backing tracks as well, although with stereo tracks there's not really a way to use a click track. They are constantly updating the firmware, so just maybe there's hope for that in the future? You can also use the Viva as your audio interface when using a computer.

I found the menu a little confusing at first, but good once I understood it. After importing a Soundfont, there isn't much you can do for editing, other than apply some good effects. I hope they allow some basic parameters like ADHSR (which are available for some onboard sounds but not imported) at some point in the future.

Extremely happy with Viva S1, and highly recommend it.

Everything I Expected and More

I just love the S1's sleek design, quality workmanship, transportability, simple intuitive controls, ease of play, and great variety of voices. I considered many different keyboards - some less expensive and some more so - and I kept coming back to this one. I didn't want a lot of bells and whistles, and this is a solid choice that is perfect for me. I've already had to communicate with Dexibell once (just a registration issue) and they were very responsive. Can't beat Sweetwater for service, either.

What Do Our In-house Gear Experts Think?

Kevin McMillan

As a gigging pianist for over 10 years, I’ve always been a little picky when it comes to keyboards. I need something that sounds truly authentic and “feels” like I’m actually playing a piano. The Dexibell S1 does all of that and more. The presets sound extremely real, and the onboard effects let you dial in each keyboard exactly how you want it, just like you would if you were behind an actual grand or EP. On top of that, it is light-weight and can be battery operated. This is perfect for whenever I have gigs in not-so-convenient places and don’t want to worry about power issues. The S1 is an amazing keyboard and truly does have that “Italian made” craftsmanship.
