Half Ukulele, Half P Bass — All Fender

Get your Fender on with this delightful instrument that merges two worlds into one cohesive tonal fusion. Sweetwater has found the Fender Fullerton Precision Bass Uke is an excellent addition for excursions across the globe or campfires in your backyard. Made with a spruce top, solid okoume back and sides, a walnut fingerboard, and a maple neck, this instrument plays as excellently as it sounds. One part ukulele, one part Precision Bass, this diminutive instrument nevertheless takes cues from its Precision parent: Fender electronics give you superb plugged-in tone with a preamp plus volume and tone controls. There’s even an integrated tuner!

Complete with P Bass body and more

Sweetwater is enthused to present the Fullerton Precision Bass Uke to musicians who want to take their favorite Fender model on the road. While it plays and sounds like a ukulele (till you plug it in), the Fender Fullerton Precision Bass Uke has all the P Bass touchstones: double-cutaway body, 4-in-line headstock, and a 1-ply pickguard. Other appointments like a genuine walnut bridge, synthetic bone nut, and sealed tuners combine for an enhanced tone and tuning support that'll have you loving every second of your Fender Fullerton P Bass Uke experience.

Fender Fullerton Precision Bass Uke Features:

  • The best of both worlds in 1 instrument: Fender Precision Bass and a ukulele
  • Plug in for detailed Fender preamp sound; built-in tuner keeps your intonation solid
  • Laminated spruce top and solid okoume back and sides dole out delightful uke tone
  • Maple neck and walnut fingerboard are delightfully playable
  • P Bass touches like double-cutaway body, 4-in-line headstock, a 1-ply pickguard, and more

Cute! Small but Big

I was really surprised at the big, deep sound this cute little produces. Obviously, the fingering takes a little getting used to for us bass players but still a lot of fun to play. I did the same thing Bass Player Magazine did - plugged it into my little SWR cubes or Hartke stack. It does not disappoint.

The Bass Player review pretty much nails it.

Kudos to Sweetwater & Brook F. Went the extra mile to find a case that would fit this. Guitar Center just brushed it off, didn't even try to find something. A couple days after my initial inquiry Brook got back to me with an alternative to the hard shell case I was looking for.

Awesome product!

I just received this great little bass. Compared to other bass ukes that use the "rubber band" strings, this one plays much more like a real bass with the wound strings. I have not had it long enough to give it a workout on stage, but I will provide more on this once I get the opportunity. So far, at home through my rig, I am very pleased with the tone and the feel of this instrument.

Fender Fullerton Precision Bass Uke

This baby is really sweet. The active electronics and playability blow me away. For under $, this bass is killer. The nylon core nickel wound strings are a big part of the sound, tone and playability. I have the rubber Kala bass with the red Aquila strings on and it's fun and sounds nice, but this bass sounds holds up to the sound of a full scale Fender. Nice job Fender!
Music background: playing bass for 30yrs.

A fun alternative to rubber-string uke basses

This is a neat little bass. The fit, finish, and electronics seem nice. The tuners are appropriate for the headstock size and seem well made. I like the full neck and body binding and the strap buttons. Only two complaints:
1. The strings seems a little cheap. Also, the E string was too short and popped off the tuning peg.
2. To restring the instrument, you access the underside of the bridge through a panel on the back. The panel cover is really flimsy and held on with 4 tiny wood screws. I have another similar bass and the panel is beafy and held on with magnets.

I was worried about what kind of replacement strings would work. I used D'Addario strings designed for the Taylor GS Mini Bass and they seem to work perfectly.

Multiple cosmetic issues and playability issues

I'm very disappointed with this instrument and it will be going back to sweetwater. I'm not sure if this is just a factory b stock unit or what happened. Immediately I noticed the sound hole didn't appear to have been sanded, there are scraggly bits sticking out and painted over - it's not at all smooth to the touch and visibly noticeable. There's a big hole in the laminate on the top of the neck which didn't photograph great but feels terrible as you are playing and can't be good for the neck. There's also what appears to be a marker line across the frets and down the neck near the whole in the laminate. The binding at the neck just looks awful. There are weird black marks along the binding and the white coloring isn't smooth, there's jagged marks all over this instrument.
On top of all the cosmetic issues, something really odd is happening where if you play the 9th fret on the g string the lower strings cause the g string to vibrate against the lower frets, say around the 5th fret. I've never seen a bass do this; I've seen string buzz further down toward the body where you are playing - not closer to the headstock. It rattles like crazy and just doesn't sound good or look good. With all the cosmetic issues it's not worth it to me to try to adjust the neck, nor do I want to do that on a brand-new instrument.
I'm pretty bummed out about this purchase and the fact that I have to deal with returning it. I'm not sure what happened with the quality control on this unit - clearly not much care was given.
Music background: 20 years on bass, guitar, uke etc.
