The Classic Digital Synths You Crave
Even if you're a classic synth collector, you'd be hard pressed to get your hands on the four keyboards modeled in the UVI Digital Synsations collection, let alone experience the sound-crafting power of this highly capable virtual instrument. Covering all of the bases of the late '80s and early '90s digital synthesis, Digital Synsations comes loaded with spot-on models of the Yamaha SY77, Korg M1, Ensoniq VFX, and Roland D-50, including all of their essential controls and unique characteristics. Another thing the synth nuts at Sweetwater dig about Digital Synsations are the presets, which really showcase these amazing instruments can do.

UVI Digital Synsations Virtual Instrument Synthesizer at a Glance:- The DS77 serves up FM synthesis inspired by the Yamaha SY77
- Korg's M1 AI synth comes back to life in the DS1 virtual module
- The DSX perfectly captures the Ensoniq VFX's wavetable synthesis
- Roland's 8-bit digital D-50 is reborn in the DS90s soft synth
The Yamaha SY77 synthesizer took Frequency Modulation (FM) synthesis to a whole new level known as Realtime Convolution and Modulation (RCM) hybrid, which used advanced FM tone generation 16-bit sample-based Advanced Wave Memory (AWM), in addition to subtractive sound shaping, to create a vast array of sounds from the nearly realistic to the fantastical. As one of the last Yamaha workstations capable of true FM, the sound of the SY77 - perfectly captured by UVI's DS77 virtual synth module - practically defined the digital EP sound of the 90s and was widely adapted, from pop artists such as Brian Eno and Toto to cutting-edge industrial artists including Skinny Puppy and Front 242.
Korg's M1 AI synth comes back to life in the DS1 virtual moduleThe DS1 module captures the sound of the 1988 Korg M1, one of the first truly modern digital synthesizers to hit the market. Touting Advanced Integrated (AI) synthesis, this keyboard used a blend of 16-bit multisamples and primitive additive synthesis (often in parallel) to create enormously fat sounds that became the bread and butter of composers everywhere throughout the late '80s and early '90s. If you hear a pop tune from around 1990, chances are the M1 is all over it. With the DS1, you get this sonic legacy in all of its detail, right from the convenience of your favorite DAW.
The DSX perfectly captures the Ensoniq VFX's wavetable synthesisLike the legendary PPG Wave, the Ensoniq VFX (re-created in the UVS DSX synth module) employed a version of stacked wavetable synthesis, feeding up to six waves through a battery of dual multimode filters, 11-stage envelopes, LFO modulation, and a 24-bit effects engine. The DSX also captures the extensive parameter mapping of the VFX, which allows you to map up to 15 modulation sources to create impressively rich and complexly evolving sounds.
Roland's 8-bit digital D-50 is reborn in the DS90s soft synthOriginally launched in 1987, the Roland D-50 had a screaming 2-year run, before leaving the market. Unsurprisingly, this breakthrough digital synth became a mainstay of music production for the decade to follow and showed up on countless hit records by artists such as Michael Jackson, Duran Duran, Rush, and Paula Abdul. It was also a staple of the burgeoning electronic music world, with artists ranging from Fluke to Enya finding new sonic textures in this powerful synth. The UVI DS90s captures all of the D-50's sonic power in full detail, including its raw 8-bit PCM sound, linear arithmetic synthesis, and host of synthesis tools.
