Great tool for a shoestring budget

I'm just getting my first studio together and needed an inexpensive audio interface for my computer. I found the ART USB mix and it fit right into my budget. This unit does everything I need and more. I couldn't be happier with it.

Good Mixer

Serves its purpose well. Easy to set up and configure for guitar and mic input into Audacity and Studio 1. Can't beat the price. All around good deal!

Captures dry signals - or is supposed to

We use these for remote collaboration among band members to create compiled performances in a video. My bandmates use these to record their parts in an iPad or iPhone video, and send it to me where I can take each channel into my DAW as a separate track and mix like we had been together in the studio. It works with this device because it sends CH1 and 2 DRY signals out the USB. Thus a band member can plug the mic into Input 1, the guitar into Input 2, the backing track into the Aux, the USB into the iPad Camera USB adapter dongle - and what I get back is a video with good quality audio where L channel is only the voice and R channel is only the guitar, both in sync with the common backing track that we all use. I strip out the L and R channels from all the videos, mix the song, and make a six-panel video with sound coming from the combined result.

CAUTION: The only problem is that there is a fault in the firmware currently (June 2020) in that the supposedly "dry" signal is tapped after the EQ and pan, meaning that you have to pan Inputs 1 and 2 full L and R, and set EQ knobs at 0 to keep the tracks truly dry. Makes it useless for recording dry when actually performing in front of an audience. Otherwise, I would have rated the features and quality 5.

love this thing

I have owned every interface you can think of on both Macbook Pros and inexpensive Asus PC laptops. I just needed the simplest, dumbed-down interface that I could plug a guitar or bass in and do some amp modeling in Reaper on a $400 laptop. At first there was a ton of latency so I played around with the settings in Reaper, made sure the interface was plugged into my USB 3.0 slot, and downloaded ASIO4ALL which gave me some different audio options in my Reaper preferences, eliminating all latency.

Also, not sure if its the cable or the USB output on the USB Mix but it doesn't seem to lock in. The cable isn't really falling out of the machine but it seems to go in and out a bit too easy.

If you are patient, you can get this thing to work flawlessly. I would totally replace it if something happened to it.
