Steinberg's 4-channel Interface with Rupert Neve Transformers

The Steinberg UR-RT4 combines the company's acclaimed D-PRE Class A preamps with switchable Rupert Neve Designs input transformers to deliver a rich musical sound with enhanced harmonics. The UR-RT4 offers zero-latency monitoring with effects using dspMixFx software and the interface's integrated SSP2 DSP. Included is the VST3 Basic FX Suite with the Sweet Spot Morphing Channel Strip, REV-X reverb, and Guitar Amp Classics plug-ins. You also get Cubase AI DAW software for Mac/PC and Cubasis LE for iPad. But it's the Rupert Neve transformers that make the Steinberg UR-RT4 truly special. Mr. Neve is a legendary pro audio designer, and the UR-RT4 adds his renowned sound quality to a compact 24-bit/192kHz USB 2.0 interface that offers flexible I/O, rugged build quality, and outstanding value.

Easy, stable integration with any recording rig

For the UR-RT4, Steinberg's crack team of audio and driver software developers engineered an I/O implementation that gives you both stability and flexibility, with drivers that support ASIO, Core Audio, and WDM standards. This means you can connect to all DAWs that support any of these universal standards. What's more, the UR-RT4 features CC mode, which enables it to easily connect to your iPad and work with a broad range of iOS audio apps.

Bundled Steinberg software for computer and iPad

The UR-RT4 includes Cubase AI, a streamlined version of Steinberg's world-class Mac/Windows production environment. On the road? Download Cubasis LE from the App Store for an enticing palette of recording and mixing features optimized for touchscreen operation on your iPad. Especially cool is the fact that Cubase can open Cubasis LE projects, so you can quickly capture your musical ideas on your iPad, then transfer them to Cubase for further development in your studio. With this degree of flexibility, you can take projects from concept to mastered album — all with one compact and cost-effective piece of hardware.

The magical Rupert Neve sound

Notice Rupert Neve's signature on the UR-RT4 faceplate. That's the Rupert Neve, the pro audio legend whose electronics designs defined the golden age of analog. Those of us at Sweetwater who have had the privilege of working on a Neve 8078 or its predecessors can attest to the fact that Neve's 80 Series consoles were indeed the pinnacle of handwired analog mixing desks. Mr. Neve has remained at the forefront of audio-circuit innovation for over half a century, and his current company, Rupert Neve Designs, continues to advance the state of the art with cutting-edge products that sound incredible and intelligently address the challenges of the digital age. The inclusion of Rupert Neve Designs input transformers in the Steinberg UR-RT4 makes this legendary sound available in a budget-friendly USB 2.0 interface.

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Standing ovation

This is the best product I have ever purchased when it comes to music. I didn't even need to use my outboard gear. If they keep this going Im a for life customer.

Love it!

Love my new Steinburg interface! The initial connections and recognition with the rest of my gear worked perfectly. I got the RT4 because I was replacing another interface and right now I don't need many inputs, this unit has enough inputs for now but the Neve transformer sound is great. I think even as a first interface, the RT2 would be fine on the budget especially getting this high quality build.

I'm already hearing and experiencing very favorable sound and use. I highly recommend this interface!

One of the best interfaces in the market

There many great interfaces in the market (Focusrite Scarlett/Clarett, Audient iD series, SSL, Apollo, etc.), all of which will produce professional recordings. What makes this one stand out above all the others are the Neve transformers, which none of these other interfaces feature built-in transformers in the preamp, let alone a Neve one. Something most high-end external preamps feature. Without the transformer engaged, the interface sounds like all the others mentioned; good but very vanilla in my opinion. With the transformers engaged however, it does take the recordings to a higher level.

Its a great sounding interface. I only wish they made an 8ch version or at least capable of cascading it with another URRT unit to expand it's channel count. One thing to note is the interface doesn't feature a pad button.

Aside from that, I picked it up as my travel interface for touring. it's wonderful and am very happy with it.

Clean Sound

I bought this about a year ago and love it. The recordings sound awesome and how quickly it works with cubase. I'm also so happy I bought this portable interface because I'm using to stream online with zoom. The two headphone jacks are coming in really handy. The Neve buttons gives it that extra great sound without needing to add much more. I completely recommend it.

What Do Our In-house Gear Experts Think?

Alberto Rosado-Perez

As someone who has spent time in professional studios and has also done plenty of home recordings, I am truly impressed by the recording and tonal capabilities the UR-RT4 brings to the table. I love the full harmonics I'm able to capture through the Neve transformers when recording and it's rugged enough to easily handle being a protable interface.
