700 Watts of Stadium-filling Tone

When you really need to fill a packed house, the Blackstar U700 Unity Elite bass head has you covered. Not only do you get 700 watts of cab-pummeling output, but you also get virtually all the tone-shaping tools — overdrive, chorus, octave, compression, and more — baked right into the head. Switch between three power amp stages via the U700's Response control to shape your compression characteristics, natural drive, and dynamics. Choose between three distinct preamp voicings, then sculpt the result with a 3-band semi-parametric EQ. Increase your bass's punch, depth, and low end with compression, chorus, and sub-octave effects. The U700 is loaded with enough connectivity for live, studio, and home use. And whether you're feeding a bass cab onstage or running it as a front end in the studio, the Blackstar U700 from Sweetwater really delivers.

High headroom to high gain

Whatever bass tone is in your head, you can coax it from the U700 Unity Elite. It all starts with Blackstar's unique Response control, which gives you the choice of three classic power amp stages: Linear, 6L6, and 6550. You also get three distinct preamp voicings: Classic, Modern, and Flat. The U700's Drive section is loaded with three overdrives — OD, Distortion, and Fuzz — with a user-controllable blend. Beyond that, a 3-band EQ with a semi-parametric Mid knob supplies you with plenty of sound-sculpting power. Need more punch, depth, or low-end muscle? No problem. The U700 features built-in compression, chorus, and sub-octave effects.

Loaded with useful features for stage and studio

The Blackstar U700 Unity Elite is packed to the gills with useful features. Connectivity abounds, with an XLR line output and a headphones output with independent level control. A -10dB pad accommodates both active and passive instruments, and an MP3/line input is onboard to supercharge your practice sessions. Integrate your pedals and external processors with the built-in effects loop. Finally, a cabinet-emulated line output and USB audio output make DI recording a breeze, while an included 2-channel footswitch and gig bag make this tiny powerhouse all the more impressive.

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Blackstar U700

I have owned this Blackstar U700 for 2 years now with zero issues.

Pros:
Super easy to use and get a great sound, I can get any sound I need out of this head.
Great classic/modern sounds
Adding distortion (3 types) to your sound is easy (from mild to wild) If that is something you need.
Weights nothing (my back thanks you)

Cons:
Why would you put the on/off switch on the back and offer a rackmount kit?
Only 1 speakon connector, 2 would be ideal

Ideas:
I personally would love it if this was made into a preamp unit.

Exceptional Blackstar Bass Amplifier U700 Elite

This amplifier is truly groundbreaking, it has all the hefty but clean thick-to-clean sounds at a flick of the switches I was looking for. Very cleverly and expertly thought out. I suspect that many top players may overlook this beauty, honestly! It is the amp that I have been looking for, for years on end. All the right features, easy to operate, and with an effects loop. The design is just brilliant.

Now, I only wish that this amp could throw out at least 750 watts via 4 ohms. Honestly, this is the only place where it lets it down for players like me, big time. You get the full 700 watts via 2.67ohm which I did not know until purchasing it.

However, I love the design and the sounds so much that I am keeping it, solidly built with big dials and no blingy lights!

If a mark 2 was released, with more power via the 4 Ohms for busy players like me, then I would purchase immediately.

So common Blackstar get the power right this time!

Powerful & Versitile

Out if the box this amp is big and powerful starting with all tone controls set at noon and everything else off. The 3 voices and 3 responses give you instant tone and feel changes without touching anything else. Then add the way the mid sweep shifts based on the voice selected and the seemingly simplistic EQ section shows you how versatile it really is. Then add to that three nice dirt options plus chorus, octave up/down, and a very musical well thought out one knob compressor and you have a beast.

Whatever your genres are it's in there. I found small adjustments make big changes from super clean for you jazz & funk cats to big -n- thick for country to grindy and authoritative for the hard rockers. I totally dig how I can jump from one place to another with a twist of the response dial and/or a flip of the voice switch. The amp is very usable straight out of the box. But, if you take the time to get to know it your sound is in there.

I've had this amp about a month now and feel very confident it will serve me well for the long haul. As a cover musician working several genres on a regular basis I now have one amp to rule them all. For my investment I got a very powerful, musical, feature rich bass amp plus a really nice soft case and 2 button foot switch. It also plays nice with my pedal board for the really heavy stuff. On a country gig I just shove a tuner in the gig bag with the amp and I'm there. For my needs it's a complete win.

One caveat though; I do wish the foot switch had LED's to quickly verify what is off or on. Other than that this amp is as close to perfect as I could ask for and not enough of an issue to stop me from giving this amazing new product 5 stars.

Rock on Blackstar & thanks Sweetwater for making it happen.

I just didn't like it.

The unit is well built, lightweight, loads of options and has plenty of power.

In writing that, I personally could not find a preferential sound that wasn't loaded with midrange. These days I use for the most part, Fender Jazz and Rickenbacker 4003 basses and run a scooped EQ; lots of low end, a minimum amount of mids and a modest amount of high end (yes the infamous "smiley face") and its worked great for me for many years, or at least since I've gotten to the point where I can no longer stand to play my with any kind of "dead strings."

Normally with that EQ, I can get decent tone in most of my basses by only adding a slight amount of treble on the bass itself. In the case of the Ric 4003, the high end pickup tone I actually keep the whole way down and still have plenty of high end cut. I could not create enough high end cut on either instrument with the addition to not being able to remove a preferred amount of midrange, could not get a nice clean sound and thought they sounded "muddy."

My only other quirk with the unit is that I also purchased the rack mounting kit, which is a nice option but by placing the "power" button on the rear of the unit doesn't exactly add to the efficiency of mounting it in the first place. Anyone of you that use racks with multiple processors can understand things can get a little messy back there, so I don't want to feeling around for on/off switches.

In all honesty, I'm guessing most people would absolutely LOVE this little amp if it would at all suit the sound you're looking to achieve. I have owned a Blackstar guitar combo amp for years and it has been solid as a rock so they make very dependable equipment.

This review is nothing more than my personal opinion of the unit.

Blackstar U700

Amp sounds amazing. Firast one I got failed out of the box. Sweetwater was awesome to deal with, and managed a rplacement for me. Cool. Got the 2nd unit and fell in love with the thing. Now 11 months later it's doing the same thing as the out of box failure. White noise and a red light on the front. Awaiting reponse from Sweetwater trouble ticket, but I'm really disappointed in Blackstar. Such a great sounding amp, but I'm now 0 for 2, 11 months into this thing sooo... I guess, buy at your own risk...
