The Tele Bass Rides Again

This Fender Vintera II ’70s Telecaster Bass is a remarkably faithful reissue of the Tele Bass’ second evolution, which initially lasted for nearly the entirety of the decade until its 1979 discontinuation. True to the times, the Vintera II ’70s Telecaster Bass supplies its round and rowdy tone via a familiarly massive Fender Wide Range humbucker at the neck with accommodating Tone and Volume controls. Bassists at Sweetwater praise how Fender nailed the minute vintage details on this 4-string, including proprietary open gear tuners, a 2-saddle adjustable bridge, and the classic wooden tug bar propped on the body. The P-bass-shaped alder body and maple neck combination pay period-correct homage as well, the latter sculpted with a mid-’70s profile. For vintage enthusiasts, tone chasers, bass gurus, and gigging musicians alike, the Vintera II ’70s Telecaster Bass encapsulates the original’s bygone beauty and boastful tone in a modern, high-performance package.

Timeless weight and wood combo

Fender made sure to give the Vintera II ’70s Telecaster Bass veritable appointments that let players really connect with history — starting with its wood selection! Like the original Tele Bass, the alder body of this Vintera II ’70s Telecaster Bass utilizes the double-cut silhouette of Fender’s long-revered P Bass, offering a comfortable medium weight and balanced tonal foundation. Its maple neck and 20-fret matching fingerboard feel equally proper, providing a sleek platform for precision playing with an era-appropriate neck carve that gives this brand-new bass an undeniably vintage feel.

Packed with wide-ranging punch

Fender sustained the old-school sonics of its Wide Range humbucker into this model. This pickup gives the Vintera II ’70s Telecaster Bass a full, far-reaching, and classically thumping sound that’s warm and round in character, capable of both holding down the rhythm in the shadows and then turning up the heat when pushed. You’ve also got a set of master Volume and Tone knobs for streamlined leveling and tone shaping, keeping your controls simplified so your attention always veers toward the music.

Vintage details throughout

To really drive home the ’70s vibe, this 4-string boasts plenty of retro features that perfectly blend classic aesthetics with contemporary functionality. Such examples include the 2-saddle, vintage-style, adjustable bridge with steel saddles and a set of ’70s vintage-style stamped open gear tuners. The raw, reliable functionality and charming look of this hardware add an inspired element of dependability that totally transforms the playing feel, especially for stage performances. Additionally, finer details like the extended pickguard and wooden tug bar beneath the pickup send this reissue straight back to the days of bell-bottoms and pumping bass lines in grand fashion!

Fender Vintera II Telecaster Bass Features:

  • Incredibly faithful reissue of the original ’70s Telecaster Bass
  • Medium weight and tonally balanced alder body takes after the classic P Bass shape
  • Mid-’70s maple neck and fingerboard create a precision and accurate-feeling playing platform
  • Reissued Fender Wide Range neck humbucker delivers warm, round, and full-sounding tone
  • Master Tone and Volume controls streamline your tone-shaping experience
  • Stunning intonation and feel from a 2-saddle, vintage-style, adjustable bridge with steel saddles and ’70s vintage-style stamped open gear tuners
  • Extended pickguard and tug bar infuse this bass with total ’70s charm

Awesome bass.

I'd been waiting on this bass to be released since there was a leak about the new Vintera 2 series coming out with a Telecaster 70s bass. Andy Rice as usual set me up with the deal from Sweetwater and the bass arrived ready to play.
There are no flaws with this bass. The neck, fretwork, finish and playability are right up the with my American made Fender's.
The sound of this bass is big and clear if you turn the tone up more you get more clarity. You'll get some nice thump with the tone rolled back. This pickup is a great sounding pickup. This is definitely a great sounding and playing instrument and as usual Sweetwater came through with a fine buying experience.
