Own a Piece of Rock ’n’ Roll History
Few clubs are as infamous as Toronto’s El Mocambo (home to a legendary surprise appearance by the Rolling Stones in disguise), and the Fender Custom Shop Limited Edition El Mocambo Telecaster Heavy Relic is your chance to own a true piece of rock ’n’ roll history! Limited to 25 instruments worldwide, the El Mocambo Telecaster’s body is constructed from a piece of Eastern white pine reclaimed from the Club’s original structure. What’s more, this Canuck artifact is perfectly paired with a quartersawn roasted Canadian maple neck, while the African blackwood fingerboard provides a smooth playing surface and an elegant visual contrast. Under the hood, the El Mocambo is all business, loaded with a vintage-voiced set of Josefina Hand-wound Texas Special and Twisted Tele pickups that bring plenty of twang. Finally, the custom palm tree 1st fret inlay and engraved El Mocambo neck plate pay homage to this guitar’s legendary rock ’n’ roll pedigree!

Quartersawn maple neck adds strength and durability
The neck is one of the most important aspects of any instrument, which is why the Fender Custom Shop El Mocambo Telecaster features a quartersawn maple neck. Besides looking good, the straight grain of quartersawn necks is about 50% more rigid than plain-sawn necks, and less likely to warp, twist or shrink. You'll also love the playability and feel of the El Mocambo Telecaster’s jumbo frets when you're navigating the fretboard. Down low, your fretting hand will appreciate the 9.5-inch radius that strikes a great balance for rhythm and lead work.
Hand-wound Josefina fat ’50s pickups
Perhaps the most well-renowned pickup winder in history, Abigail Ybarra’s half-century-long tenure at Fender produced some of the most iconic electric guitar tones in music history. Before she retired from Fender, she taught everything she knew to her personal apprentice Josefina Campos, retaining the incredible legacy of Fender’s golden-age tones in this Telecaster’s pair of hand-wound pickups! The El Mocambo Telecaster’s Josefina Texas Special and Josefina Twisted Tele pickups beautifully capture the hard-hitting twang and round bottom end of the finest vintage Telecasters, and because Josefina individually hand-winds every one of these pickups in the custom shop, each set delivers a one-of-a-kind tone that sounds straight out of Fender’s golden era!
The Heavy Relic treatment delivers real-deal visuals
The Fender Custom Shop's Heavy Relic treatment starts with a period-correct nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Nitro finishes — standard back in the day — are significantly thinner than today's polyurethane finishes, allowing the guitar to breathe. Relic'd guitars are then put through the aging process to give you an axe that looks and feels like it's seen decades of frontline action. The process creates instruments that are spitting images of the originals. Without sneaking a look at the neck heel stamps, you'd be hard-pressed to distinguish the Fender Custom Shop El Mocambo Telecaster from the real deal.
